She stared at the newborn in disgust and he stared at it in awe.
Tears streamed down both of their faces, but for two different reasons.
The beginning of a new life, and the end of an old one...
(Your POV)
It was sometime around 9:30 in the morning. Levi had arrived to my house to drop off Eren and I was definitely not expecting him to be this early but he did tell me that his schedule was flexible.
I stood at the half opened front door in a tank top and PJ shorts, with my hair tied up into a ponytail. Levi, in his work attire, was explaining anything I needed to know about Eren, which I have to say was weird for two reasons: a) Levi doesn't talk much... Or so I thought and b) It's making me feel old. We're about the same age but he has a kid and I'm babysitting his kid...
Levi handed me a brown and blue bag with Eren's contents inside. "Uh, I'm pretty sure that's all... He doesn't ask for much."
I received the bag, slinging it over a shoulder. "Alright." Next, Levi gave up Eren who was knocked out, placing him into my hands and care for the day.
"I hope this isn't inconveniencing you..." He awkwardly said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"No, no. It's totally fine." I smiled, "And you said you'd be here to pick him up by six?"
"Yes, hopefully."
"Okay, great..."
We stood in an awkward silence until he decided to break it.
"Well, yeah. I should probably get going now."
"O-oh, yeah! See you later."
"Bye."
I watched his figure retreat into a black car, and I gave him one last wave before he drove off. I went back into my home, closing the door with a foot. The sleeping child started to stir on my hip, while letting out a yawn.
"Mhh..." His little voice shook as he rubbed an eye. "Dada?"
"Good morning Eren, remember me?"
He stared at me in confusion and his lips began to quiver.
"Please don't cry sweetheart."
"Dada?" He began to cry.
"Oh no, it-it's okay. Dada will be back soon." I kind of started to panic. I didn't want Eren to go home hating me, Levi would kill me. "There must be something in here for you..." While walking into the living room, I rummaged through the bag in search for a bottle. Eren continuously cried, wiggling in my arms. My hand met with something plastic and lukewarm. "Aha! This must be it." I said and pulled out the object.
"Baba?" His cry toned down as he reached for the object in my hand.
"Yes honey, but I have to warm it up for you." I set him down onto the sofa and pulled out a teddy bear and a blanket. "Stay here, okay."
I went into the kitchen to warm up his bottle and he went under the blanket and cuddled the stuffed animal.
Well, we're off to a decent start.
Two minutes later I was back, holding the warm bottle. The blanket he was wrapped in was on the ground along with the teddy bear and he was no where to be found.
"Eren?" I couldn't find him. "Oh no, please don't tell me you ran away." I searched all around the living room.
Not here.
