I crossed my arms over my chest. "It wasn't that funny," I whined.

"You...you...tripped over the trash can," Ethan tried to say through his laughter.

"Yeah," I responded, "we've covered that."

"It wasn't even a small one. It was like half the size of you."

Out of nowhere, Layla jumped in "I know, right?" she said. Then she leaned over and gave Ethan a high five.

"Really Layla. I thought you were more mature than this," I grumbled.

Ethan laughed and pulled me close to him. I took a sharp breath. Layla's eyes got big. I mouthed "shut up" but, of course, she didn't.

"You better not do that," Layla said as she gave us a warning look. "Paul would kill you."

Ethan let go of me and I frowned. "What?" he demanded.

"You didn't tell him?" Layla whispered to me.

"Tell me what?" Ethan asked, looking from me to Layla.

"Um...Paul doesn't want me to talk to you. Like at all," I mumbled.

Ethan responded, "Why not?"

"Because we have a history." I said all of this with my head down, a thick blush covering my cheeks.

"Well, I hope you dumped his sad ass."

"Language," Layla sang, scolding Ethan.

"Sorry. I hope you dumped his butt," Ethan mocked. Layla just rolled her eyes.

Layla responded, "Juliette didn't."

"What?" Ethan demanded.

"We are trying to work it out," I blurted.

Ethan looked at me with eyes filled with disappointment. "The old you would have dumped him in a heartbeat," he told me.

I knew that Ethan missed the old me but he'd know all about me if he didn't leave. "People change," was my only response.

Ethan just shook his head. I scowled and moved out of his grip.

"Juliette?" Layla asked.

I grumbled, "What."

"We're going to the bathroom."

"Wait? Wh-" I was already being dragged there.

When we arrived I didn't have to go so I was forced to stare at the wall while Layla used the bathroom.

"I think that you and Ethan would work," she told me as she washed her hands.

I rolled my eyes. "You know I'm with Paul," I responded.

Layla sighed and leaned against the wall. "Juliette, I need to be honest with you. You don't look at Paul the way you look at Ethan."

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

"You do." Layla nodded.

"Okay, okay, okay," I confessed. "I might still have...feelings for Ethan. But don't say anything, I don't know if I trust him."

"I totally understand. Just don't forget about the saying."

"What saying?"

"'If you fall in love with two people go with the second. Because if you really loved the first then you wouldn't have fallen for the second.'"
