"I don't know where you put your letter," Layla said, "but you're welcomed to look around."

Jess and I blurted in unison, "Thanks."

The two of us quickly looked around. We dug through some drawers and checked the closet. "Check under the bed," Layla told us as she sat on her dresser. I followed her instructions and shoved my arm under her bed. I grabbed something that felt like paper and when I removed my arm the letter was held in my hand.

"Found it!" I exclaimed.

Jess and Layla commanded, "Open it!"

I turned the letter over and had my fingers under the fold when I realized opening this letter could change everything. I didn't want to open it. "I can't."

Layla threw her head back in frustration and Jess rolled her eyes. Then she stood up. "Well, thanks anyway."

"Anytime."

Jess and I walked out of Layla's house in silence. We stayed that way until we were halfway home.

"I can't believe you aren't opening the letter," Jess blurted.

"Oh my gosh. Does it even matter?"

"Yes. This could change everything."

"I know. I know that it could change everything. That's why I'm not opening it."

Jess folded her arms and pouted. "Well, that's just stupid."

All the sudden my phone went off. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

"Can you check that?" I asked Jess.

"Yeah, whatever. "Jess grabbed my phone. "'Juliette, please talk to me,' from Ethan."

"Don't respond."

"Why not?"

"I'm done with him."
