"Violet...a perfect name for the color of your eyes," Sam said.
I stopped and stared at him, petrified. I pulled my hand away from his.
"I have to go." Then I turned around to run.
I ran to the closest corridor, to the shadows. Once my feet touched the shadows, I jumped with my destination in mind. The world is spinning. I closed my eyes. When I opened them, I was standing on the shadows behind the shelves of my Father's office.
I leaned on it, listening for noises. All I heard was my breathing and some wet noises...which couldn't possibly be mine.
Don't tell me...
I slowly peaked ahead...only to find a horror.

I banged on Nova's door.
"Be gentle, you brat!" Lilly nudged me to the side. "Nova? Are you alright?"
Nothing.
"Nova? Are you there?" She tried again.
"Let's just open it," I suggested.
"Nova, I'm starting to get worried.." She looked at me. "We're going to open your door okay? Sam's too excited to see you!"
I gave her a glare. "Why...you.."
She reached for a handle that wasn't there. "What...there's no handle?"
I smirked. "Mutables do not need doors. They pass through walls like ghosts."
It was her turn to glare at me. "Right. What should we do, oh righteous one?"
I rolled my sleeves up, staring at the impenetrable steel iron door in front of me.
"This should be easy." I laid my hand on the cold steel. I felt the iron respond to my touch. Explode!
The steel doors exploded, sending shards of metal everywhere. The shards didn't touch me and my sister.
Lillian did a slow clap. "Way to go little Sam. Surely Nova will be grateful for the destruction of her door."
I ignored her and stepped inside. Bookshelves were arranged on the right side of her room, the vanity and sink taking up the smallest space on the left, with the study table taking as much space as her shelves.
Lillian whistled. "A bookworm through and through."
Nova's room was as tidy as I could imagine it would be. Not that I spent a lot of time imagining...everything was tidy except for her study table and her unkempt bed.
I tiptoed inside, careful not to step on anything important. She's doing research?
I picked up a piece of paper littered on the floor. Ley lines, it says. Ley lines are places sacred to Fey Folk. These places, because of exposure to the supernatural, have been a good source of magic.
"Are you alright Sam?" Lillian asked, staring at my shaking hand.
I passed the paper to her and picked another one. It was a sketch of the mortal body, with special points highlighted to signify a killing blow.
"What in the world is she studying?"
Lillian pulled the paper out of my hands. "This is forbidden! Why is she studying these things?"
