Scorched Desert, City of Augus
I hold in my hands the life of a man..or as man as he could be, with the corruption and all.
"Kill them! Kill them all!" I urged him in a singsong voice.
Glazed eyes turned to his comrades and struck. Heads were falling like the drip drop of rain. Blood sprinkled, dew on the sands. I turned to another corrupted, whispering to him the same things.
The mind is a complex thing. They can struggle all they want, but not against my charmspeak.
There was something odd happening about them. Those farthest from our defenses were filing in line. This I observed, as I moved closer to them, unnoticed. Surrounded by a crew of five corrupted under my charm, I plunged on the congested bodies. Urging the crew to fall in line with me at the center, I calmed the loud beating of my heart.
Someone's coming...
The hush that followed was startlingly eerie. Goosebumps rose over my arms. I bit my tongue from shivering.
A hideous display of power, I noted as I kept my eyes blank, mirroring the corrupted around me. It urged me to run as far away as I can. My skin prickled, the source of power coming closer.
I stared at the assorted heads around me, covered in black, brown, red, and silver tresses..but never blond. I gave a little gasp.
By Cancer's pincers! How could I forget the moment of my folly!
The Hydro folk are immune to the corruption because of their affinity to water, Nova's voice echoed again and again in my head.
I am the sheep among the wolves! And I'll be slaughtered like one!
The voices were already steps away from view. Cursing myself, I ripped off the cloth wrapped around my bitten arm. It was nearly healed. It stopped bleeding now. Taking a deep breath, I buried my nails directly on the wound. The wound bled anew. Calming my breaths, I sent a silent prayer to the gods.
"How about the storm giants?" A melodious voice, definitely male, drifted just a few steps away.
I was tempted to look up, to see who was speaking. I fixed my gaze on the pair of boots he'd been wearing.
Fancy boots, I thought. Even with my inexperience with footwear, I know they're awfully worth a few gold drachmas.
"They're quite indisposed."
A silence. Dead silence.
"Fireheart is on a rampage Sir," the messenger quickly added. "The champions rallied to defend the city. She-"
"Nonsense! The champions are nothing but children. They will tire soon enough."
The fancy boots stopped in front of me.
"You are bitten," the voice remarked.
My breath hitched. The contents of my stomach threatened to spill out all over the zodiac in front of me. Forcing myself, I looked up to meet his amber eyes.
His jet black hair complemented his dark olive skin. The hawk nose, upturned eyes, strong jawline and 5 o'clock shadow of his beard screamed trouble.
He is mind bogglingly handsome.
"But that is impossible Sir. She is of the Hydro Kingdom," the messenger reminded the stronger one.
The messenger had silver hair and wings the color of clouds heavy with rain. A guardian. His cruel eyes assessed me hungrily.
