"Sirius Orion Black, you are charged with murder on three counts as well as the endangerment of muggles and exposing of the wizarding world. James and Lily Potter and Peter Pettigrew. How would you like to plead?" All heads turned to Sirius as he gazed up at the Wizengamot.

"I plead not guilty." The head of the committee sat back in his seat as he readjusted himself before continuing,

"Your wand was taken from you upon being taken into custody. Per Albus Dumbledore's request, as well as the urging of your representation, we are going to check the last spell that was cast from it."

Sirius sat silently as they were preparing to check his wand, he decided to look around the room a bit and his eyes landed upon Remus. Their eyes met causing Sirius's heart to leap. Remus, however, looked as if he hadn't slept in weeks, the bags under his eyes a deep purple.

"Now, Mr. Black, once this spell is cast we will be able to cast judgement. Do you understand this?"

"I do."

Sirius held his breath as the spell was cast, he knew he had nothing to hide. He had tried to disarm Peter before the rat had blasted the street apart. Anger swelled in his chest once more as he watched the spell show the truth. He heard some astonished gasps and whispers began to fill the room, along with a few relieved sighs. The head of the committee adjusted in his seat with an uncomfortable look on his face.

"Mr. Black, it appears that your wand is proving us to be wrong. Would you mind telling us what your account is while under the influences of veritaserum? I do hope you understand that we must be as thorough as possible."

"I consent." Sirius was approach with a small vial, which was placed against his lips for him, as his hands were restrained. They waited a few moments for the potion to take effect.

"Now, for some test questions to be sure the potion was properly administered. What is your name?"

"Sirius Orion Black the third."

"When is your birthday?"

"November third."

"Excellent. Now, Mr. Black why did you go after Mr. Pettigrew?"

"He gave Lily and James Potter's whereabouts to Lord Voldemort." There were shudders throughout the room as Sirius spoke about Voldemort, he could've sworn one woman let out a small scream.

"How did he obtain the information of the Potters' location? Were you not the Potters' secret keeper?"

"We decided to make Peter the secret keeper at the last minute, because we knew that no one would suspect him."

The Wizengamot began murmuring as did the rest of the room. Sirius wished he could turn to look at Remus, to see how he was reacting, but he knew that he couldn't. The head of the council was conferring with someone next to him quietly before turning back to Sirius.

"Mr. Black, did you murder Peter Pettigrew?"

"No, I did not."

"Can you tell me exactly what happened?"

"I found Peter in the middle of the muggle town. He kept moving his head looking for a way out. I tried to disarm him, but he blasted the square and cut his finger off before transforming into his animagus form of a rat. The aurors came soon after." Sirius took a deep breath as he leaned his head back against the chair he was seated in. He was ready for this to be over with, he was tired and he just wanted to see Harry.

"Thank you, Mr. Black. If you give us consent we would like to acquire your memory of the event, and for the moment we will take a break to allow us to review your memory first hand. In the mean time, you will be escorted to a room here in the ministry to wait. We will return in an hour."
