Mysterypaw

They had reached the Moonpool. One other dog was sitting beside the pool of water and was waiting for the others. The dog reeked of fish.

"Hello," the dog rasped. Mysterypaw waved her paw up to him unable to speak. The fishy smelling dog continued. "My name is Dropfur and this here behind me is Cloudfur, my apprentice."

"Uh.... I am Mysterypaw and this is my mentor Redfang," she barked shyly. They all barked with amusement. What did I say that was funny? she wondered.

"Sorry to laugh at you, little one,"  Cloudfur barked even though he looked no older than a new warrior.

Anger surged through her and she spat at Cloudfur and said, "Don't call me little one!"

Amused the apprentice growled, "Okay, little one!"

"That's enough!" Dropfur snarled at his apprentice.

"Ha. Ha," she growled at Cloudfur.

Redfang smacked Mysterypaw's face. After that she growled, "You stop, also!"

After awhile of waiting for the other medicine dogs they appeared. All of the new comers glanced at Mysterypaw, then to her mentor.

The first one who spoke smelled of delicious rabbits. The she-dog said, "Hi! I've noticed you're new!" the new speaker talked the friendliest to her that day. "I am Fluffpelt, medicine dog of WindClan. Oh, and over here is my apprentice, Brownpaw.

The other dog who was behind her smelled of rats. The he-dog spoke generously like he actually cared what I felt. " I am Spotfur from ShadowClan." he bark was sweet, but his face was dull. "What's your name?"

"I uh.... am Mysterypaw. Uh.. of ThunderClan." she still didn't wanted to talk.

"Well the moon is high. Let's all see the dreams of StarClan," her mentor growled. Redfang then told Mysterypaw, "Dip your nose into the water and you'll fall asleep."

Mysterypaw did as her mentor said. Everything turned black until a dapple colored she-dog appeared. The she-dog finally spoke, "Hello, Mysterypaw!"

"You-you know my name?!?!" Mysterypaw's words were shocked.

"Of coarse silly!" she spoke firm and yet gentle.

Mysterypaw had to think of what to say. "What's your name?"

"I am Dapplestar," the she-dog told her. Of coarse! I should have noticed her pelt from when I was a moon ! Mysterypaw thought.

"Well, am I worthy to become a medicine dog?" she asked getting tired of talking.

"That is what we need to talk about..." Dapplestar put her head down. "No, you aren't."

"Wh-what!!!!! Why???" sadness and anger surges through her.

"There is a prophecy, " Mysterypaw was told.

A voice suddenly was in her head. "Mystery will give what the Clan wishes once she becomes a warrior, and a   leader."

Dapplestar's voice was heard again. "You are the    mystery."

Mysterypaw woke up. The prophecy rang in her head. Then Dapplestar's words rang. I have to tell Redfang! Mysterypaw thought.

Redfang woke last. Anticipating to find out the answer. "Are you welcomed?"

She met her mentor's eyes. In the corner of her eye she saw Cloudfur looking and waiting to hear her fail. "I'll tell you at camp. I want the whole Clan to hear this!" she tried to sound excited, so Cloudfur would stop having the look of happiness. Cloudfur lowered his eyes and walked on.

They got to the camp during sun high the next day. Redfang, still tired, asked, "You gonna anounce it?"

"After a nap!" she snapped grouchily.

Her dreams were troubled by what Dapplestar told her. When she woke she was glad to be up. Mysterypaw looked over her shoulder to see her mentor. Hunger lurched in her belly. She padded out of the den and into the clearing. There was a big, fat rabbit in the pile. She grabbed that and a vole for her mentor. When she got back to her and Redfang's den she paused. This could be the last time sharing a meal with Redfang. Although her mentor was still asleep she took a bite of the huge rabbit.

After a few heartbeats of chewing she padded towards her mentor's nest. Redfang stirred in her sleep. Mysterypaw put her cold, wet nose on Redfang's forehead. She nudged the elderly dog awake. Redfang blinked her eyes open.

"I got you some food. I wanted to eat with you," Mysterypaw told her gently.

Redfang nodded and went towards the vole. Mysterypaw took hungry bites into her rabbit. After awhile she was full, and parts of the rabbit were still there. I mustn't waist if I am about to tell the Clan I am not worthy. she thought.

When they both were done Redfang asked her, "Are you going to tell the Clan? Like right now?"

"Yes of coarse, Redfang," she told her.

They both padded into the leader's den. Graystar looked surprised to have us visit. "What do you guys need?" Graystar asked.

"My apprentice here wants to tell the Clan StarClan's decision," her mentor continued. "I would hope you'd let her."

"Very well...." the leader's answer was unsure. Graystar padded out of her den and onto the High Ledge, and spoke the ancient words to gather the Clan. "Mysterypaw must tell you guys StarClan's path for her."

Mysterypaw padded in front of everyone. She looked around and felt sick because of the attention. "Dapplestar visited me," she said shakily. "The former leader told me a prophecy. I shall fulfill it by becoming a warrior of my Clan."

Gasps were heard everywhere. Graystar's voice rose above them. "What exactly did she say?"

"She said 'Mystery will give what the Clan wishes once she has become a warrior, and a leader'," Mysterypaw continued. "She then told me I was the Mystery."
