The Wolf - Fever Ray
————————————————So. Many. People.
Yet I feel empowered. These people have waited for me for too long, every single one of them stares at me in shock. I can't help but smirk as I walk down the isle, gradually coming to a halt as I breathe heavily.
I'd done this once under control, and it was when I changed to save Hunter from dying. I close my eyes, and breathe heavily, remembering what Alek and Em told me.
I block out all sounds, and my mind goes blank. I focus on my hearing - imagining the sounds my feet make as I pound them into he ground while running. Not using two limbs....but four.
I imagine the sounds of the tress rustling in the wind, the birds chirping into the trees to their kind. Their families, their loved ones.
I focus on my sight next. The sight of running through the forest in the spring, something I've never experienced yet at home, something I've been looking forward to doing, yet might never get the chance as my place in the world is here.
I imagine myself running towards a large ash wolf who I recognise as Hunter, his familiar coat shining as he runs beside me, taunting me for a race he knows he will never win.
I think of my sense of smell, the familiar sent of the fresh bark on wood and newly opened flowers. I think of the mesmerising smell that comes from him, but I immediately push it away, knowing the person my body asks for will never be by my side.
I think of the tastes in my mouth, the taste of freedom and limitless power that I've not even begun to explore. I think of the taste of Hunters lips as they make contact with mine, his sweet red lips reminding me of strawberries
I feel my limbs begin to move around, and there's pain, a lot of it. But after enduring worse I told my composure together, refusing to cry out as I need to show my people that I am worthy.
The bones continue to pop and crack, some more painfully than others. I feel the heavy weight of the dress being lifting off if me and soon I'm not longer standing in two legs.
Because I'm standing on four.
I open my eyes, and continue my long walk down the isle, already feeling how proud Em is that I managed to do it, I look to the side, and notice a small girl pointed at me with a smile on her face, I notice that at the end of her finger she has the same tattoo as Jay, I only now realise how left out I must be.
If all northern moon wolfs and branded with small tattoos, and the Batail Wolves have marks on their shoulders, where did I belong?
I continue walking, noticing the empty seat that was reserved for the Batail Wolves Alpha, clearly he decided not to appear.
I almost freeze from walking when I see my mom, sitting at the sides with tears running down her face and a proud smile. I almost whimper at the sight of her and Hunter beside her, refusing to look at me.
I look forward and continue walking, making eye contact with Jay as he stands proud in a white tux, his hair jelled back and his smile wide. I stop as Alpha Anaka and Alek stand tall at either sides of the isle.
Alek looks stunning with her long white hair styled in a long white braid, her short length is covered in a light teal dress and she stands tall, emitting confidence and smiling wildly at me tears forming in her eyes. We've not known each other long, but she's as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
I change once again, and I'm extremely relieved when I see that I still have a dress on my body and that I'm not complexly naked in front of everybody.
Alek grabs one arm as Alpha Anaka takes another, walking me up a large set of white stairs that are glossed with gold. In front of me are two large thrones that I recognise from before. Who I'm guessing is Jays family stand behind him, my heart breaks when I see that my father stands behind where I will stand, dressed in a black tux he stands like a statue.
He's completely still as he stares into space, unblinking. He has no idea what is happening around him. What hurts me, is the fact that I no longer have any more living family. Not by blood anyways, I'm alone.
I make my way up to the top of the stairs and Alpha Anaka and his daughter both kiss me on the cheek as Jay collects my hand bringing me up to stand in front of him as he clutches my other hand and stares into my eyes.
I push away the feeling at the back on my head that this is wrong, oh so wrong and continue to look forward at Jay, hoping that he can give me the confidence I need.
I can feel Hunters heart breaking within me.
A man that I do not know begins to start the ceremony, going over words that I've been practising in my head over a million times. I sit and breathe heavily as I feel like something is wrong, and once again I push the feeling aside.
Jay notices or can feel my hesitation and gives my hand a light squeeze. I don't know how, but I can feel deep down that he also thinks this isn't right as he looks out to the crowd.
I breathe heavily once again as every hair on my body stands on its end.
"If anybody believes that the couple should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now, or forever hold you peace." The older man speaks, the room is silent, and I pray that in the back on my head that Hunter doesn't ruin this, I wouldn't live with what they would do to him.
The hall remains pitifully silent.
"I do!" A voice shouts as the large doors at the end of the hall are opened. The figure walks straight down the isle and I feel faint.
I turn around and watch as my father collapses beside me, whatever life is left in him drained.
I scream out and begin to run to him, being stopped when Jay wraps him arms around me, preventing me from reaching his body as I try to break free of his hold.
I stare down at her and begin shaking.
"I've waited a thousand years to do this years again." Catori grins.
Prepare yourselves, for an event that's been a thousand years in the making....
