I awake with a jolt, my wounds beginning to heal. My eyes are heavy and my body aches in more ways than one. Something is missing.
Someone is missing.
I sit upright as my eyes adjust to the scene around me. It's over, the fight is over and Arialia is gone. But where's Cece?
I notice Em, who's lies crying over a body. Jay also makes his way over with large tears in his eyes. My breathing begins to get rougher as I crawl my way over to the body.
A voice in my head telling me that I'm wrong, that it can't be her, she wouldn't.
I feel like I'm dying all over again as Em sits with Ceces head in her lap, her dress drenched with blood. She lies with her eyes closed and her skin pale, this is my fault.
We won the fight, but what was the point when both sides had loses, especially with both leaders dead, and not just the leaders, families.
The large door at the end of the hall opens, and a familiar face runs towards us screaming. Her long blond hair and youthful eyes look scared as she runs into Jays arms and cries.
I think her name is Saorsa.
Jay holds her tightly, telling her things will be okay. I want to laugh at his response. How will things be okay when their both literally sitting beside my mates dead corpse.
She wouldn't be dead if it wasn't for me. It's my fault.
I lightly make my way over to her body and gently cup her face as the tears fall onto it. Em continues to mumble about how she was useless and should've protected her.
I press my forehead to Ceces, repeatedly telling her to wake up, that I need her, but she doesn't respond. There's no heartbeat, there's nothing.
"Em." I call,"what's going to happen?" I ask, my voice low as I try to remain strong. I need to remain strong.
"I don't know Hunter." She whispers, her voice broken and hurt. She looks at me with wide swollen eyes.
"All the royals are dead," she looks at me with wide eyes.
"This has never happened before."
.....I have nothing to say....
The next chapter will be published tomorrow, and the last chapter and the epilogue will be posted the day after. Exactly a year after I started!
