chapter six: okay, now everyone is high with me

I should say that I was pretty glad about the next person's abilities I found.

This had happened at the beginning of the school day, for once. I had been late for school, actually late for once, and as I ran towards the gate, I realized that Alyssa was in front of me.

"Hey, Lyss!" I shouted at her, picking up my pace. "Stop ignoring me, man."

She looked behind and ignored me, hurrying a bit to the registration beeper. As she pulled her octopus towards the sensor, she glowed, and as the clock started to tick backward, she disappeared.

Okay then. Teleporter or time-turner?

I hurried up to the lift, and as I waited impatiently, I looked my watch. 8:16. Okay, I'm definitely late.

As I entered the classroom in a huff, Mr Nicholson looked up at me. "Hi, Jade! Look, Alyssa was earlier than you today! She came in earlier than me for once!"

I was astounded. I had literally just seen her in front of me. First, I thought she was a teleporter, but now, I guess she was actually a time traveler. Chronokinesis? Awesome!

Lyssa. You messed up your game. I sang in her head.

She scowled at me and then rolled her eyes. I knew you saw me, Jadie. Just hoping you were too sleepy to remember.

I may be sleepy in the mornings, but I'm not that tired. I shot back. Am I guessing this started happening Tuesday morning? And you didn't say anything?

Hey, I get to be early to school for once! And that means I get extra sleeping time but I can still get to school on time! Do you know how annoying it is when woman-tos starts praying in the mornings? Or I end up sleeping with my phone open on a good book? She complained.

Okay, fine, I'll give it to you. But don't tell anyone, will you? I don't want you to die. I'm serious.

Sirius? Okay. Oh, shït I sound like Lottie. Nope. I will not stoop down that low to make Harry Potter puns. I am over them. Over.

Whatever you say, Alyssa. I groaned.

The rest of the week droned on like this, with me figuring out everyone's abilities.

I had found...

...Camellia's ability to turn into animals and control fauna and flora when I caught her conversing with some of the flowers on the partition between the basketball courts and the cafeteria. I had watched as the flowers suddenly bloomed as their purple petals seemed more vibrant and bright than before. She had then started chatting with a bee, who then buzzed off happily towards its new flowers.

...Sophia's super-intelligence and newly acquired eidetic memory when she rattled off quotes and sources word for word from the textbook while not even looking at it, and when she managed to counter every single thing that was thrown her way during the History debate. I know she's good, but she's not that good. After a peek into her mind, I confirmed my suspicions and told her the usual.

...Alicia's gravity manipulation and vertigo-inducing telekinesis when Ryan Yip couldn't leave his chair and was rooted to the ground as he gamed and tried to pack his bag for the next lesson. The thing that made it even more obvious was when he slammed into the wall and couldn't get off it, and also when he started moaning that everything was spinning when it clearly wasn't. After wiping his mind, I had a chat with Alicia about not using powers for petty arguments (though honestly, I would've done the same).

...Martin's ability to shrink and grow during PE, when we were in the middle of PE. Although I knew that Martin was pretty good at dodging balls, especially after we witnessed him skidding across the ground on his knees to dodge a ball and then continued running, but only the most trained eyes, or someone that was looking out for abnormalities, could see that the split second the ball neared him, he had shrank miraculously, and then returned to normal size.
