I lay down on my bed, surprised at how nice it was compared to other beds I had slept in before. Kicking off my boots, I put the sheaved dagger under my pillow and looked around. Some people were already sleeping, but most people were either still brushing their teeth in the toilets, or getting ready to sleep.
I sighed, and sank my head into the pillow. Okay, not the best pillow in the world, but it'll have to do. At least we had pillow at all. Kicking the blanket open to get as comfortable as possible, I closed my eyes and tried to sleep.
Do you know that feeling when you're trying to sleep, but everything decides to sound so loud and you can't sleep? That's what I was feeling right now. I groaned, and looked around again. There were only two people near me, Ruby on my right and Camellia at the foot of my bed.
Sighing, I sank my head into the pillow again. Rubes and Lyss were idly chatting quietly next to me, and some of the boys were talking at the other end of the room. I groaned, pulling the pillow around my head. Even if there was no mental chatter, normal human chatter still existed.
Loud human chatter.
After what seemed like an hour, I finally fell asleep.
And after what seemed like 15 minutes, I was woken up by an insistent tapping on my side. I immediately grabbed my knife and lunged on the person distracting and interrupting my sleep, and glanced at him or her.
Woah! Knife down, no friendly fire. That isn't something you can just turn off you know? This isn't a video game. Lily immediately said, forcing me to put the knife down. Just wanted to check on you.
In the middle of the night?
I just got back from the mission. Just a simple raid on a Ghost base. We managed to attack one of the labs that they had, confiscated any of the chemical formulas they were developing for the creation of more mutated bio-weapons and soldiers. The Ghosts aren't close, thank god, but they have managed to induce physical mutations.
Why are the Ghosts and Dragons fighting again? And how many successful mutated people are there?
Successfully mutations are more common on the Dragons side, so most of the people in our society are from the Dragon side. Former Ghosts like me, Buzzard and Crow are the minority around here, due to the fact that Starling was a pretty high ranking member of the Dragons anyways, and took most of the scientists with her. The Birds of Paradise came with her too, the triplets. Starling was actually the scientist that developed the mutation formula, which is why you guys were mutated successfully.
You're still not answering my questions. Why are they fighting? And why are you waking me up for a history lesson?
They're fighting over territory and resources for their drug transportation, and now fighting over the newly developed mutagen. The Dragons hold the mutagen formula while the Ghosts hold the synthetic heroin formula and both parties are unwilling to do a trade because they fear that the other will gain leverage over them and develop their formulas. If they worked together, they would become the biggest Triad and organized criminal group.
And why did you wake me up?
Starling said that we could choose our favorites in your class to train personally. I chose you. Telepath to telepath. Though I do envy your telekinesis.
Isn't that unfair if it comes to the tournaments you talked about? It'll give me and anyone else an advantage.
Yes, but we won't choose someone that we know probably won't stand a chance. We choose the ones that have a potential to be squadron leader. Plus, don't you want the advantage? Also, you did lead the charge on Chase.
