"Yo. Wake up." Ruby poked me, and I opened my eyes. "Unless you want to fail the exam, you should probably get up."
"I'm awake," I mumbled, cracking my back. "I'm awake. Stop poking me." I stood up, cracking my back a few more times, before heading to Room B.
"What's the knife assessment?" She asked as she walked to Room A.
"Hunger Games Catching Fire training scene," I responded. "But with a knife. You get to chose what weapon you want. What's the gun assessment?"
"Putting the gun together under the time limit, and then how good your aim is." She replied. "Good luck."
"Buenos suerte to you too, Rubes." I said, giving her a little salute. "Don't embarrass yourself."
I entered the room and walked in to face a suddenly tidied up training room. "Enter, Jade Wong. Designation, X-20." Chase said, his demeanor suddenly cool and collected. "Welcome, Jade, to the physical test. First task. Endurance. You have half an hour to run as much as possible. No water breaks. No stopping." I stepped up to the treadmill, nodding at Chase. "Your time starts, now."
I began to run, starting at a slow jog to warm up my legs, before my pace quickened. I could say that I was certainly fitter than I was before I joined because now, half an hour of sprinting seemed like a breeze to the 20km torture he used to put us through. After what I thought was four minutes, a little beep signified that I had already ran 1km. Damn, that was fast. Usually, I ran 1km in about 5-7 minutes, when I actually bothered to run. 1km in 4 minutes meant that I could reach 6.5km in the restricted time, but only if I could keep it up.
25 minutes and 5 beeps later, Chase called out again. "1 minute left." I sped up, running faster so that I could attempt at a 7km. I guess I wasn't fast enough because the treadmill stopped abruptly after a long beep. "Your time is up. Length ran, 6.83km. Current ranking, 4th. Next test, strength." He pointed to the salmon ladder on the side, and I gaped at him. He honestly thought I could do that? "Do as much as you can. The distance in between each rung will increase as you go higher."
I limped over to the ladder, and stood under it, ready to jump for the first rung. I looked up at it, and held up my arms. It was closer to me now, so I guess I had grown taller. I should probably check out how tall and heavy I was now. I used to be 156cm, so I hoped I was taller than that now. I'm still small compared to everyone else though.
"Are you ready?" He asked, and I nodded again, not bothering to waste my breath talking back to him. "Go."
I jumped up, hanging onto the bar. I closed my eyes to concentrate my strength in my arms and core, and swung upwards, pulling the bar up with me to the second rung. Gaining momentum again, I pulled up, and continued this process further and further up. There were a few instances when I nearly missed the rungs, but I held on, determined to get to the next as the rungs began to widen out.
I soon dropped out at who knows which rung, and as I panted on the mat, Chase looked at me with a smile. "Current ranking, 3rd. Third test. Speed and agility." He pointed to another part of the room, showing 10 glass bottles that were placed in different heights and places in the marked off area. "You will be timed in how fast you can smash all of those bottles while under enemy fire. Ready?"
I ran over to the area he pointed to, and stood next to one of the bottles. "Ready."
"Go!" I smashed the one nearest to me with my right hand, before holographic bullets began shooting at me. Already smashing a third with my left hand, I flipped off the crate that it was on, soaring over bullets that whizzed past, and smashed another two with my feet as I landed. I jumped to the next few, and soon, all 10 bottles were smashed. "Hmm, not bad. Current ranking, 2nd. Last test, skill."
