"You've got to be kidding me," Karyn muttered, reloading her guns and hiding behind Abby and me, who had created a defensive shield around us, my primary layer of telekinetic energy, and her secondary layer of ice, but we both knew that it was just for show, and we wouldn't be able to hold it very long.
The boys filtered in, revealing Evan, Martin, Ryan Yip, and Jason. If these four were the last boys alive, where were Alyssa and Camellia? Their names had never popped up on my display as being dead before, so I assumed that they were still alive, and hiding. Red words flashed on my screen, and I hardly had time to read it before it disappeared.
Playzone shrinking in one minute.
Playzone?
What playzone?
A 3D layout of the building soon appeared on all of our screens, with the section of the top three floors shaded in blue, and the rest of the building shaded in red. Including where we were. I glanced frantically at the girls, who looked back at us with a similar expression. They had no idea what it was, but if the playzone was shrinking and we were outside the playzone... Well, pretty sure that wasn't a good thing.
When I spoke, it was barely audible, a little more than a whisper. "Three, two, one..."
Karyn reacted the fastest, her pistols aiming at Martin and two gunshots echoed in the air. Martin dissolved into pixels, and rest of the boys looked annoyed. Karyn took aim again, this time aiming at Evan, but Evan reacted faster, jumping high into the air and punching Karyn in the gut, sending her flying across the room. Karyn hit the wall with an oof, before crumpling to the ground like a ragdoll. She hadn't dissolved into pixels yet, but if she had a health bar, it'd be red and in the low zone.
Shrew HAS BEEN KILLED BY Kelpie WITH Pistol
Evan punched again, shattering Abby's icy defenses, and I struggled to keep mine up, slowly being pushed back into a defensive circle. "Abby, the zombies!" Yelped Karyn as she groaned in the corner, and as Abby broke formation to fend off the incoming zombies, Karyn used the edge of her knife to carve something on the floor. A box appeared, and she hid inside it. Physically, she must have been in pain, since Evan did have super strength, but she seemed to still have a high reserve with her abilities.
Rock spires burst from the ground beneath us, towering over Meredith and me as Jason's hands glowed green. I wasn't sure what Meredith did, but she whispered something, causing pink mist to seep from her hands. The pink mist curled harmlessly around our feet, but when they came in contact with the columns of rock, the rock dissolved into pixels.
Ox HAS BEEN KILLED BY Siren WITH Sorcery.
Jason's green hands suddenly turned pink as Meredith took control of his abilities, and her eyes glowing pink as well now, jerked her hands back, causing a spire of rock to pierce through Jason, and Jason crumbled into pixels. With Karyn still out of commission and healing and Abby too busy fending off zombies, it was finally 2v2.
One problem. If Meredith could use Jason's powers to rip Jason apart, what had stopped Jason from doing the same to us? I looked behind the rock spire and realized that Jason had been the distraction, stopping us from realizing what the boys' plan actually was.
I threw one of my daggers towards Ryan Yip, who's hand was touching one of the security panels and eyes were flashing white, but just as the dagger was about to impale him, it dissolved into pixels, before re-emerging behind a completely unscathed Ryan.
I tried to bring the knife back to me, but instead, my display glitched, a sudden blackness filling my vision with only two words visible.
