Walking into Lily's office was like walking into your room after going on holiday for a while. New, but familiar. She smiled at me, the blonde highlights in her hair looking fresher than before, and motioned for me to sit. "You promised me answers," I said, as I plopped down.
Inside voice, Maxim is the brightest mind on this entire earth, he has tabs on almost all of us with his creepy trust issues. I'm almost certain he's watching us on his monitors, which is why I chose the office right above the labs. My range is big enough to read the minds of you guys when you're in your dorms, but downstairs is close enough for me to rest in Maxim's mind. Loud shouting is also Maxim's specialty, so I like watching the little shows he and Theodora put up.
Why were they arguing anyways? I asked Lily, swirling around on one of her chairs. It had been quite a while, a month, actually, since I had had a normal sitting down talk with Lily, since most of our conversations had been mental and during combat training. Not exactly the best place for a conversation.
It's messy, but the basics are, they used to be dating when they were back in the Dragon triad. That's why I'm not sure about things, but Carson keeps me updated. Apparently, they broke up quite spectacularly after the formation of this little defection group, back when we were still just a couple of runaways from each side wanting to stop a catastrophe. Dora came out of the closet as being bisexual, broke up with Max, and ended up dating Angela. Mercy, you would call her.
So it's just basically just relationship drama.
It's a bit more than that. She muttered. Max and the rest of the Birds of Paradise aren't the biggest fan of poor old Angela, since her healing abilities are incapable of healing injuries that are too severe or was born with them, and can't cure their disabilities. Those three were working as a pretty good team, self sustaining by themselves even before they were recruited into the Dragons, but when everyone got their powers and their efficiency increased tenfold, Angela disliked the credit they received for a lot of their accomplishments, and thought that she was being discredited for her job in stabilizing the mutagen.
Wait, so who created the first mutagen gas?
Jasmine is head scientist, and Max helped her with it, so those two are close. Angela was one of the other top scientists, and her job in stabilizing the compound so that it wouldn't cause the subject's physical or mental health deteriorate due to exertion was overlooked by their superiors. Basically, she's being salty, and there's been a rivalry in between Max and Angie for a long time. Didn't help when Theodora decided to choose her before him, allowing Angie to have something to be smug about. It's been going on for ages, and it is so annoying.
I thought drama was for teenagers. I muttered.
Oh, I wish. There is a lot of drama in the older group. We're not that much older, all ranging from 16-
Chase.
Yes, Chase. Stop interrupting. As I was saying, our ages range from 16 to 30. I'm only 20, believe it or not, second youngest after Buzzard. Crow is 21, Starling is 28, Hawk is 25 etcetera. The Birds of Paradise, Dove and Mercy are all 24, and they knew each other even before they joined the Dragons. Who actually chooses to join a triad?
You?
I wasn't recruited or willingly part of the Ghosts, which is why it was so easy for me to defect from them. My brother dragged me along with him, and now he's lounging as Buzzard's father's right-hand man. But ever since our little rebellion against their gang war started, they've moved all the bases and operations that any of us had knowledge of, so we have no idea where they are. Only Maxim's tracking devices and satellite images give us even a hint to where they may be.
