My right arm was mummified, but I couldn't feel any pain. Fang was asleep inside his tent and I had come out ten minutes ago. My team had been happy to see me up.

I knew it looked paranoid, but I couldn't help checking the water every ten seconds. I was worried the shadow would come back.

"Dragon, relax. Even if it does come back, and it would have to be stupid to, we can take care of it." Suri said. I nodded.

"Ya. I suppose so." I sighed. I was exhausted and worried about Fang.

"How's your arm?" Jade asked. I looked from her to everyone else before I answered.

"Fine. It's weird, but I still can't feel a thing." I pulled my knees up to my chest and hugged them. My right arm was between my legs and my chest.

"That's odd. I wonder if it's an effect of shadows." Jade asked.

"Don't know. I am curious; do you think Lord Death knew about the shadow?" I asked.

"Don't know. But there is an old miester story called the Legend of Shadow Lake." We all turned to look at Suri. "I'll admit. It's more my family's story than a true legend, but this is how it goes."

We all moved to face her and I dropped my knees down to the side. I was leaning on my left arm and had my right resting across my legs.

"Once, a long time ago, there was a kishin. He was evil and killed a lot of humans. At first he kept it a secret, but his miester knew almost right away. The miester didn't tell anyone and actually helped his partner kill humans. When Lord Death found out he and a witch cursed him." She said.

"Wait. I thought we killed witches?" I asked.

"We do. I'm not sure how it works either, but that's the story. Anyway, the curse was that they, the miester and weapon, would be bound as shadows to a small lake hidden away. In order to not be in pain they have to drink or take the blood of animals. Here's the catch. Even though human blood is what it wants the most, it can only take blood from one human. Ever. If this is the lake, then it will come back." Suri said.

"Creepy." I muttered. I looked back at the lake. It looked as peaceful and calm as it had the day we had arrived. I looked up and saw a small dark shadow up against the sun. "What's that?" I asked myself quietly. I waited a minute and suddenly I realized it was a person.

"Guy, heads up." I jumped to my feet. All my friends did the same. I saw Jade move a step closer to Violet and Suri shifted slightly. Suddenly they hit the shallows of the lake with a huge splash. The guy had landed in a crouch, but straightened up.

"Hello kids." He said. He was wearing a black and white striped jail suit and I could see the glint of a metal ball connected to his ankle. His right eye looked normal, but the other had a strange red symbol on it. His eyebrow said 'no future', written in black.

"Who is this guy?" I asked Violet.

"No idea. But I do know he's bad news. I think he may be an immortal." Violet explained.

"An immortal. Wonder what his soul looks like?" I thought. I focused in on his soul. It was large like Kid's, but his had green electricity around the top and a weird symbol on the side.

"Hey, who are you?" Shadow asked the guy.

"I'm an immortal. My true name is lost, but I go by Free." Free smiled and I noticed he had sharp fangs.
