Weeks have passed, I never triggered the sensitive topic again. He still can't speak, I once considered taking him to the doctor but he refused. Despite the contradictions we get along well. He involves himself in daily chores. Until I reach home after a long day of work, he would already be sitting on the couch with food waiting for me.
Yeah, I don't bath him anymore since he is capable of doing it himself now. Does it seem like I'm the one who's eager to wash him naked? But really I'm not, besides it's troublesome. I'm just worried that's it. But he does forgets his pills sometimes while sometimes he deliberately pretends to do things wrong or forget things just annoy me, for Attention.
I did brought silver to accompany the lone slacker and he also acts as an ally between us. It's him who takes majority of the care of silver though. We all get along well, but it seems more closer to him than me. In my absence an inseparable bond has established between them.
I was leaving for The Eureka Medical College. This is the College I graduated from so I couldn't turn down their request. I had sealed the deal earlier in the starting of the new session to lecture the Nephrology class as a guest professor. My classes were two days in a week. So, apart from two hours, that were for lectures, rest of the hours of the day were reserved for the hospital. I do have to report to the hospital everyday, that'll never change.
Once I entered the college premises I spotted Ashley coming out of the Dean's Office. I changed my route to office because she was walking to where I came in from and I didn't want to bump into her I'm never in mood to swallow her bullshit. She's a walking trouble. She was out. I gathered my confidence once again before starting the class. What business can she possibly have with the dean that she had to visit him this early in the morning. I am very well aware of the fact that Ashley Noelia Cayawan is the daughter of the president of Eclipse Industries, she lives off her dad's fortune, holds 10% shares of the company, birth privileges, I've confirmed. Besides being unproductive, she also got her hands on the ceo of The Paradise Hospital, Hubert Leiteo, that's what he is to her. Hubert's folks own a chain of private hospitals and laboratories. In all, it's dense, political fights and competition for power is the center of attention, they're wealthy and for generations to come they'll never be forced to sleep hungry. But the two families never touched educational sectors. Why was she here? It's not like any of her siblings might be studying here, they can't handle the pressure. It's not their place.
In fact, anything related to me is out her comfort zone.
It's none of my business but I've always been a curious cat.
It was midnight when I reached home. Yeah.. it does feels home now. I saw the filtered lights peeking out from the window of my living room. He was still up, he has always been, for me. My stomach fluttered inside, An involuntary smile spread across my face, just like every other day I stand on the doorstep and look at the house lit up from inside. I make sure he gets to see me grinning as I pass through the threshold and know what his presence is to me, that how happy I am to see someone waiting for me.
He had drifted off to sleep while waiting for me. "I'm Home." I whispered quietly as I made my way to the kitchen. After taking a peek here and there to find something energizing to drink but not finding anything I turned to leave but I jumped back in surprise as I saw the drowsy rascal standing a few inches away from me. I didn't heard him move. "You scared me!" I said offensively. He yawned as he shrugged. He tapped on his wristwatch and furrowed his eyebrows, I walked past him to the table of food while he followed me. "The operation took long. We were going right but his arteries bursted, we had to do it other way round. We couldn't wait for another day. It was a right now or die situation. Where is Silver?" I explained him in a way he could understand and changed the topic. He pointed to his room. I nodded in a 'ooh' expression.
"I see you're getting a lot better." Physically saying. It's the starting week of another month but he doesn't seem to gotten over what he's been through. Every time when he dodges the topic I see the pain in his eyes.
He nodded very slowly. "Don't worry I won't abondon you after you recover, you can stay here as long as you want. I Cherish your company." I say because that's what I feel. Although I doubt he's scared to go back to his place, because if he wanted to leave, he could've long ago.
One thing bugs me all the time after I gave him my credit card to use. Not a single penny was spent from my account. Still he brings dozens of things for home and silver. How?
I couldn't bring myself to ask him. Even today, I looked at him eating and I paused, opened my mouth, breath in, but close it again and Resume to eat. His eyes flickered up to mine but I divert my gaze. I am hesitant to inquire something so general but why?
The door banged loudly. It was almost one in the morning. Who could it be. Regardless I take my time, wash my hands and walk to the door while the rascal made a beeline to his own room. That-was a Manly thing to do! My brain commented sarcastically as I scowled in the direction where his back disappeared.
Someone again pounded on the door but this time the force reduced. I opened the door to see a defeated, a man drenched in sweat Slouching, his rounded spine as he kneeled down the floor, eyes hidden with his messy hair, his right hand fisted while the left hand covered his bicep to stop it from bleeding further, his head was bent down, he must've lost his strength. I quickly grab the man's left arm and help him get up while he wobbled as I led him to the living room.
It was Hugo. He was shot in the right arm. "Time?" I quickly got him water bottle as I asked. He was panting. "Deep breaths." I acted out and he followed.
"One hour." He said in husky voice. No wonder his shirt is drenched dark red. But he can still mange to be conscious in this state, he always manage to surprise me.
His eyes were flicking close. Finally some normalcy. "I wanted to get to you before passing out. Now I'm gonna rest, Zenovia." My name almost came like a whisper before he started snoring.
