Kai: With a smirk of my own, I finished the rest of my drink and stood up as well. "You ready now, Alaya?" I asked.
Alaya: I nod my head and say "Yeah, I think I'm ready. Are you sure you can drive? I'm just making sure you're not a lightweight." I ask eyeing your drink.
Kai: I placed a bill on the bar to cover the additional two drinks. "Trust me, I'm good. I didn't drink nearly enough to reach any point of inability," I said, sticking my wallet back in my pocket and opening the door for you. "I promise you'll get home safely," I added with a smile.
Alaya: I flash a smile in thanks and step outside before realizing something, "Um Kai. I really don't wanna ask this. Ugh. Do you live with anyone? Or do you have any spare rooms or something? I hate to ask but I don't really have a place to stay. I was planning on going home but...." I trial off not wanting to mention my ex even more tonight. I can't believe my life has gotten to the point where I'm asking strangers for a place to sleep.
Kai: "I have a spare bedroom you can use," I said, walking you towards my car. I glanced over at you knowingly. "Is it your place or your ex's?"
Alaya: I bite my lip in shame and look towards the ground. "I was so in love and stupid when I moved in with him. Everything is in his name." I think to myself before muttering "He has....everything." I say out of breath. I'm not sure if the drinks were finally hitting me or if I was actually starting to process everything. All I know is that I slowly feel a tear fall down my face. I quickly wipe it away before returning my eyes back up to you.
Kai: I listened to you attentively. The shame and devastation was evident in your tone, but I didn't want to say anything until you had gotten it all out. So I just listened, adopting a sympathetic look as I saw a tear trail down your cheek.
Alaya: I'm not sure if you're looking at me with pity or something else, but it was enough to break me. For the first time in awhile I finally break down. Tears quickly flow down before I can even stop them. Before I know it I start hiccuping and I can feel the snot coming. I place my hands on my knees and bend over before repeating "Oh god." Over and over again. "I've lost everything in one day. ONE FUCKING DAY!" I place my hands over my mouth in shock. I whisper to you, "Kai I have nothing."
