Demina was furious. Avelyn had ridden into the palace with the sword of St. George. After explaining what happened and how she’d gotten it, she’d promptly passed out. Lord Ean had left with a couple of guards to retrieve the errant thieves and Avelyn was being attended to by a local doctor. Demina was pacing outside the door, waiting for the physician to be finished. Like I said, she was furious. She wasn’t mad at Avelyn. She was angry with herself. Running what ifs through her mind. She sighed and slid down, sitting on the floor and placing her head in her hands. The door opened and Demi jumped up, heart thudding.
“What is it? Is she alright? What happened?” She demanded.
“Lady Avelyn is fine. She’s awake and anxious to see you.”
Demina blew out a sigh of relief and rushed past. She shook her head and stopped, remembering her manners.
“Good day, Dr. Ford. Thank you,” she called out. The man chuckled and nodded to her.
“Avelyn Kathleen, don’t you ever scare me like that again!”
Avelyn grinned, sheepishly.
“I’m sorry.”
Demina scowled at her sternly.
“Your life is not worth a stupid sword. Goodness gracious girl, you’re going to give me a heart attack!” she groaned.
“I’m sorry? I just...I couldn’t let them take it. I feel like it could help us,” Avelyn explained. Demina narrowed her eyes and Avelyn got out of her bed, going over to the dresser where the sword had been laid.
“You shouldn’t be out of bed, Ava.”
Avelyn shrugged and grinned.
“The doctor said I will be fine. Don’t worry.”
Demina sighed and Avelyn eagerly picked up the sword.
“Demi...I just....I don’t know what happened. I was using it and it just started glowing. It was so strange.”
Demi sat on the bed, curious.
“It glowed?”
“Yes....and it blasted Raquel across the room.”
“Hmm...That is strange.”
Demina looked away from her, going quiet. Avelyn sat down next to her after placing the sword back down.
“Demi...What’s wrong?”
Demina sighed.
“Avelyn, will you promise me something?”
“I would do anything. What is it?”
“....if it comes down to Jaxon or I, choose what will make you the happiest alright? Don’t worry about me.”
