Chapter 42

“No!” she burst out, punching him, “You let me think you were dead! You left me ALONE! You broke my heart!”

“I know, love. But I’m here now.”

Chase unsheathed his sword.

“The only thing stopping us...is them.”

Chase opened his mouth, a stream of fire shooting out. Castiel dove out of the way. It hit Jaxon and Avelyn and they flew backwards, hitting the wall and lying still.

“Avelyn! Jaxon!” Demi screamed, running to her friend’s side. Her breathing was still steady and her pulse was strong. She faced Chase, confused.

“Chase, why are you doing this? Avelyn’s done nothing to you. Neither has Jaxon.”

Chase shrugged and smiled.

“I know. But they do have something I want. There’s no better way to get something you want than taking it, and if it involves killing a couple of people well...I would consider that necessary losses.”

Castiel stood in front of them as Avelyn’s eyes fluttered open and Jaxon moaned.

“Over my dead body,” he growled. Chase took a step back but then he shook his head.

“It would be my pleasure, Prince Castiel.”

“Chase, please!” Demi cried, standing in front of Cas.

“Get out of the way, Demina!”

“You don’t have to do this, Chase. I know that you still have a good heart. Please, don’t hurt Castiel. Even if he can be a pain. Don’t hurt Avelyn or Jaxon.”

Chase’s eyes narrowed as Castiel shoved Demina behind, not caring about the sword pointed at his chest.

“You’re MINE, Demina! MINE! NOT. HIS. You promised yourself to ME!

“Do you hear yourself? You sound like a child. Demi is her own person. She doesn’t belong to you or me. She doesn’t belong to ANYONE!”

“Please, Chase. Try to understand the way I feel. All this time...I believed you to be dead. Chase, I grieved for you! I grieved for so...long! But, I had to heal. And I...I love Castiel.”

Castiel’s heart burst inside his chest. She loved him. Her last wall was down!

“Do you?” Chase asked, sneering. Castiel tensed. Demina gripped his hand, fearful, “Will you love him dead?”

Chase growled, eyes flashing. He thrust his sword forward.

“No!” Demi screamed. She stepped in front of him and shoved him out of the way. Castiel stumbled backwards, eyes wide. Demi felt the sword going into her chest and out of her back. Tears streaked down her face as she met Chase’s dark green eyes, a small whimper escaping her lips.

“C-chase,” she whispered, “N-no.”

“DEMI!”

Chase smirked, jerking the weapon out. Demi let out a little gasp of pain.

“If I can’t have you, Demina... If you wish to choose someone over me, then you can die for them.”
