     Chapter 39

Demina turned to Castiel, panicked.

“We have to get down there!”

“Demina, calm down. Panicking is not going to solve anything,” he ordered, making his voice harsh. She seemed to snap out of her panic as she took deep breaths to calm herself.

“Castiel!!!! Castiel, Demina!”

Demina looked down at Avelyn who was waving at her with a large smile on her face. Demi’s foot slipped and she fell on her butt, sliding down the wall and screaming all the way. Castiel waited until she was at the bottom, before sliding down himself.

“That was so much fun!” Avelyn exclaimed. Castiel helped Demina up.

“Yes, that was. But let’s not do it again.”

Castiel laughed, picked up the torch that Avelyn had dropped. He shone it around the room, his eyes widening. The room sparkled and shone as the light hit gold and precious jewels. The room was filled with gold, silver, precious metals, and jewels.

“Cas,” Demina gasped. She slowly walked around the room, running her hands through all the gold.

“Be careful, Demi. Dragon’s gold is cursed,” Avelyn warned.

Castiel walked to her and they explored the room some more.

“This has to be Drax’s lair. Which means that Jaxon is close by,” Avelyn said. Her heart pounded in anticipation and fear, “There must be a tunnel leading out of here.”

They rushed into action, time was of the essence. Finding Jaxon was their priority. Avelyn walked up to the wall in front of her. Why did it stop here?

“Demina, Castiel! In here.”

This tunnel was packed with dirt instead of stone like the last one. They smelt something like burnt meat. They kept walking but were halted by the sound of crunching bones underneath their feet. Avelyn frowned in fear, looking ahead at what might have caused this and praying that this wasn’t what happened to Jaxon.
