Chapter 16
Avelyn brushed back her hair. Castiel’s words came back to her, the story making her jaw clench. Drax would pay. Jaxon was captured, most likely dead. He'd targeted her point of weakness. And this time, he had gone too far.
"Ava? Are you alright?" Demi asked. She strode into the room with a face lined with worry and exhaustion. She was worried about her. Avelyn stopped for a moment before she strapped her armor on.
"Avelyn?! What are you doing?" Demi asked. Her voice was slightly panicked.
"Drax has to be stopped," Avelyn finally addressed her. She grabbed her bow and quiver, counting how many arrows she had, "He's ruled the people of Impreza for far too long. And if there is any chance of Jaxon being alive..."
Demina sucked in a deep breath. She laid a hand on her friend’s shoulder, biting her lip.
"Ava...you...You’re going to get yourself killed..."
"Demi, I love Jax. More than I have ever loved any one. And if I have to die...then so be it."
“Why would you have to die?”
Avelyn gave a wry smile.
“Someone always has to die, Demi. Why not me?”
"I just...can't watch you die Ava. What happens then?" she whispered.
Avelyn walked over to her, wrapping her in a tight hug.
“Take care of Castiel, okay?”
Avelyn let go of her and picked up her bow, slinging it across herself. She grabbed her bag and walked out. Demi stood and stared after her before running to her room and grabbing her stuff. There was no way in heaven she was going to let Avelyn go by herself. She was in just time as she reached the stables. Avelyn sat on top of her horse, with a smile on her face. Another horse sat with her, already saddled and packed.
“I knew you were coming. I knew you needed a little adventure too.”
Demi rolled her eyes as she climbed on.
“I’m only coming to make sure you don’t get yourself killed.”
“Mmhm. Sure.”
“Beside, Ava, you don’t know how to handle a sword,” Demi said as they motioned the guards to open the gate. The men nodded, complying. The cover story was that she and Avelyn were going to go check out the damage in the village.
“I have my bow and arrows,” Avelyn replied, indignant. Demi smirked.
“Right, because Drax is going to be stopped by a little arrow.”
“Well, what do you suggest?”
Demina smiled.
“I know a man that can train you. He lives on the outskirts. His name is Ean Smythe. He is a tactical expert.”
“Okay. But the longer we tarry, the more likely it is that Jaxon ends up dead.”
