Avelyn was usually very good at keeping herself occupied and content but she had grown restless in the week after Jaxon and Castiel's visit. She tried to focus on her tasks, she really did, but she could always find her mind wandering beyond the castle walls. Demi didn't understand. Her lady-in-waiting was quite content to stay in the castle. And Demina had been grumpy ever since Jax and Castiel had left.
"UHHHH!" Avelyn groaned, throwing herself onto the floor and flailing around. She knew she should get up and sign those important papers that the council had drafted. But she couldn't bring herself to do it. She was tired of signing, reading, and approving new laws. She wanted to get out of the stuffy palace! She longed for the outside world! She needed adventure! She should take a long walk. Maybe that would banish the feeling of restlessness inside her. Demina walked into the room, smiled and silently lay next to her.
"What is it this time, Ava?"
"You make it wound like I do this often," Avelyn replied, indignantly. Demina just looked at her. Ava sighed.
"I don't know," she whined, "I just feel restless...and bored."
"Hmm...Did you take a walk?"
"Yes and it was good but I had to come back."
"Hmm. Are you worried about Drax?"
Avelyn blinked and rolled onto her stomach. Could that be it?
"I don't know. I haven't really been thinking about it," she replied, "How are you dealing with that?"
Demina rolled onto her stomach also, looking at Avelyn.
"Honestly? I haven't been."
"Oh, Demi. Do you want to talk about it?"
Demina hesitated and Avelyn feared she would say no...again. But Demina sighed and looked at her hands.
"Well...the princes' made me think a lot about Chase. It just...brought up stuff that I didn't want brought up."
Avelyn nodded.
"I'm sorry," she said softly.
"It's not your fault."
"I know that but...I'm sad that you had to go through that and that have to deal with it now."
"I'm sorry, Ava. I didn't want to make you sad. I shouldn't have told you."
Ava lightly hit her shoulder.
"NO! I want you to tell me. I want to know. That's what friends are for."
Demina[V1] [V2] [V3] smiled a little bit.
"Thanks, Avelyn."
"Any time, Demi. I meant it."
"Okay."
They stood up and hugged.
The door suddenly burst open and they broke apart. A maid rushed in her eyes wide with fear. Avelyn felt her stomach tighten with dread and her heart raced.
"What is it?"
"M'lady! You'd better come down to the gate quick!"
Demi and Avelyn shared a quick, confused glance before running to the gate.
