It has been eight long years since then. I focused on my studies and I had graduated and got my degree in Marketing with Becky. I graduated at the top of my class and many companies offered me a high position. I declined them politely and now I’m working with my mom in her agency.
Two years ago she gifted me a boutique. There we displayed all of our designs. We made what we felt and what was unique was that all the dresses are made only once. There are no more of one coming so it was different from the rest.
Becky was travelling the world seeing the expansion of their company and would visit me yearly. Though we skyped and talked to each other every day. She sometimes takes my opinion about a situation or how to manage some things.
There was also an issue that Becky liked Reed. They got together shortly after our graduation but after a year they broke up. They reliazed they are more suited to be family rather than lovers. Reed has a girlfriend of 2 and a half years ans Becky is focusing on her work rather than on trivial love matters. Though, sometimes she partners up with Lilly to get me into a relationship.
Lilly had graduated a year after Becky and I did. She was now attending Harvard Medical School. She said after she graduates she looks for funds so she could do medical missions at least thrice a year. She was outgoing and was great at interacting with people so it was a career that fits her personality.
“I told you Lavender to come with us!” Becky urged. This was the time of the year when she visited and stayed for a month or two. It was also Lilly’s break from HMS.
“No.” I said firmly. “I’m busy.” I replied.
They were begging me to go with them at a blind date that Lilly arranged. There would be five men and five women. The three were us and the two were friends of Lilly.
“Mom could take it off your hands! It’s one night.” Lilly drawled.
“No.” I was making it hard for them. They don’t understand that I don’t want a relationship. I was too busy and I need to focus on my work.
“Come on already! It’s been 8 years and you haven’t dated since you broke up with Micale! He will not wait for you. He’s probably with a French woman doing God knows what!” Becky said exasperated.
I looked at her. Micale was still a sore subject. After the break-up I studied my ass off. I didn’t take any time off because I didn’t want to remember Micale. Eight years and he was still haunting me. I didn’t admit that though. I don’t know if I still love him or not but either way it doesn’t matter anymore. I ended everything that day.
When I looked up I saw Lilly scolding Becky. “Sorry Lave. I shouldn’t have brought him up.” Becky apologized.
“No, it’s ok. It’s not like I’m waiting for him and I know that better than anyone else. I just don’t want to go.” I smiled.
“Ok, I’ll bargain with you.” Lilly said with a thoughtful expression. “I’ll leave you alone for the rest of our lives if you go to this one.” She said. I thought about it. Lilly was always pushing me into a relationship and it was kind of tiring.
I sighed, “Fine. Just this last one and we’re done.” I grumbled.
“YES!” They shouted.
“Ok ok. Get out now. What time?” I asked.
“7 pm at Heaven’s Castle. I’ll be at your house at 4pm.” They went out of my office with gleeful expressions. I was so going to regret coming here.
“So they finally coerced you into actually attending those blind dates they set up, huh?” Melinda, my assistant and good friend from college, said.
