"I'm so happy, that you agreed to meet me here~ Thank you~"
Her lips curved into a mysterious smile as a mischievous spark appeared in her gorgeous eyes and I realized, that I was probably going to have a soft spot for her forever.
4 days have passed since the day, we met near the shops and gave each other our phone numbers and the story repeated itself. We started texting each other a lot just like we did, when we were teens and it didn't take long until we decided to meet again, but this time, to make it planned.
(Y/N) was standing right in front of me, holding her hands behind her back and waiting for me to approach her. The moonlight and the light from the lantern was falling on her face, somehow igniting her eyes. We decided to meet in the park in the evening time, but although it was late and cold, there were still lots of people here.
"How could I not meet you~?" I smiled "We missed so much~ I want to know you better again~"
"I can say the same to you~ Therefore, I'll forgive you for being late~" She answered, starting walking down the alley leisurely
"Hey~ I was only late for 5 minutes~" I excused
"Still~ It's not a good thing to make a lady wait~" She smiled wider and looked at me cockily
Is she flirting with me? Because her behavior is fairly unusual.
I felt a slight panic grow up inside of me. Not that, I was afraid of a girl, flirting with me, of course not. I was worried, that something deeply buried inside of me would wake up. First friend and first love, after all. It's something special even for such a stale person like me.
"By the way, (Y/N)...is it alright to meet me at such time? Won't your boyfriend be jealous?" I asked
"Who? Ah, yes!! I mean, no!! He's fine with that~" She smiled nervously, but I didn't pay much attention to that and just chose to believe her
"Alright then~" I replied "I just don't want to cause any problems for you~"
"You don't have to worry about it~" She soothed me "Anyway, how was your day?"
***
I was pleasantly surprised. It's been 7 years since the time, we were friends, but (Y/N) is the same. She's still young. Not "young" by years, but by her soul, while I felt like an old man beside her. She was still very curious, straightforward, funny and...how do I call it? How do you call those people, whose eyes sparkle like sparkler, when they look at the stars, who are not afraid to believe in the better future, who still hope to find their destiny?
Dreamers, probably?
If so, then (Y/N) is a dreamer. She was a dreamer and she stayed it.
"So...how was life, Dazai?" She asked, when we were passing by a big Christmas tree, placed in the center of the park
"Um...fine, I guess?" I answered "It's very cold today though..."
"It wasn't what I meant." She said "I meant...you were in the Mafia, when we met. What happened? Why did you leave it?"
I stopped in my tracks, not being sure wether I should have told her or not. I haven't seen her in years...Yeah, she seemed to be the same, but I only met her about a week ago. I couldn't be so sure in that. On the other hand, those concerned honest eyes, that were staring into mine, begged me to tell her. If only, I wasn't taught by life, that trust issues are actually a way to be safe.
"(Y/N), you see...I wouldn't like to talk about it." I said "Sorry, but...it's personal."
"Of course! I'm sorry for asking..." She exclaimed "You don't have to tell me anything! I know, that I'm like a stranger for you."
"Thank you for understanding." I smiled softly "But you know, (Y/N), we can't possibly be strangers."
"We can." She protested "Just because we share some memories doesn't make us acquaintances."
"Yes, but those memories can't be shared by strangers, right?"
She smiled and nodded after she realized what I was talking about
"You're right~" She agreed
A short moment of silence followed, but (Y/N) quickly found what to ask
"Are we friends again?" She questioned
"If you want it to be this way." I replied "We never really stopped being friends, you know? We just stopped seeing and texting each other."
"I wish, I knew why though."
I sadly smiled, before whispering
"If only it wasn't so shameful to tell..."
The rest of the night passed smoothly. We continued our walk and then, I lead her home. No romance.
