Why is the main character always in love with her best friend or the best friend in love with her?

I don't know about you, but I have a lot of guy friends and I'm not in love with one of them. And also they are not in love with me. If they are, then they would've at least showed something towards me.

Looks-
If it's a girl she is always described as bubbly and she has blond hair and blue eyes. She acts as if she's dumb, but she's actually really smart.

If it's a guy and another guy who are best friends, they always like the same girl.

Thinks-
I don't know why but if it's a girl, the main character always thinks that her friend is more prettier than her. The guy considers his friend lucky in all ways. That he has everything.
