At the sound of his voice I shivered involuntarily. The sound of it made my wolf howl with pleasure and left goosebumps along my arms.
I slowly turned to face the man who had spoken. Our eyes locked immediately, and his gaze was so intense I fought the urge to look away.
I was captivated- held prisoner by his electric blue eyes and long black lashes. His mouth was sinful in all of the right ways and he had a days worth of stubble along his jaw that made him look even rougher around the edges, giving him a bad boy feel about him. His muscles were defined and he was tall. He was without a doubt the sexiest man I had ever laid my eyes on and all of my instincts were screaming mine.
My mouth had gone dry at the sight of him and I bit my lip nervously.
The man broke eye contact with me as his eyes slowly trailed along my shoulder to where Sage's arm was still wrapped protectively around me.
He began to shake. I stepped back, shocked that he looked like he was about to shift into his wolf form.
Sage was staring at him in open-mouthed shock. "Greyson, what-?' He began, stopping mid sentence when Greyson shot him a look so venomous he was stunned into silence. It was clear that this guy was more powerful than Sage was- which posed yet another question I wasn't sure I wanted the answer to.
"Step away," He growled out, trying to control the beast within him.
He was no doubt my mate- but I was terrified of him. Terrified of what it meant for my future. These days, it was almost uncommon to find your mate with the distances between packs. Werewolves had now spread all throughout the world. Usually your only chance to find your other half was to go to the Hunt- which had become mandatory for all un-mated wolves for the last twenty something years. My parents had always respected my decision and had always come up with an excuse for me not to attend. They had sway as Alphas that allowed them to bend the rules when it came to the Hunt
All my life I had dreaded the day I would find my mate. I had seen how dependent my parents were on each other and I didn't want that for myself. I was fiercely protective of my freedom to do as I please. Although the real reason, if I was being honest with myself; would be that I never wanted to feel the loss of my other half if the inevitable happened.
Sage wisely stepped further away from me, leaving me out in the open in front of Greyson's shaking body. I bit my lip and winced when I tasted blood; I was beyond nervous of his next move. It wasn't unheard of for dominant males to mark their mates at first sight... and he was certainly dominant.
"Leave," He snarled. I glanced at Sage, wondering why he hadn't scurried out of the room by now. Daring a peek up at Greyson, I froze in confusion that he was staring straight at me.
He was telling me to get out.
I hesitated, torn between feeling hurt that he didn't want to be near me and happy that I was actually getting what I wanted.
Breaking out of my shocked state, I spared Sage a confused look as I headed out of the room. The door slammed shut behind me and without a second glance I hurried towards the front door of the pack house.
My heart sped up when I heard the two men begin to yell. The sound of glass shattering spurred me to move faster as I slipped on a random pair of flip flops that were left lying around carelessly.
I needed some air, but mostly I needed their Alpha to come home so that I could talk to him. I needed to make a plan, and fast. My pack and my family's lives were at stake.
