F I V EI was a nervous wreck.
I couldn't believe everything I had just learnt from Ivy. I felt my heart tighten painfully at the torture she had been put through by Patrick and his rogues and wondered how many of us out there yearned for his utter demise.
Trying not to draw attention to myself, I kept my head down and kept close to the large crowds that airports were famous for.
I only had half an hour before my final flight was scheduled to board, so I made my way towards gate 27 hastily. Knowing now that I most likely wouldn't be able to detect one of Patrick's supporters by their scent made my task even more impossible.
Finally reaching my destination, I handed the airport employee my boarding pass and showed her my passport. She was an older woman with slightly greying hair. I watched as she scammed her eyes over my passport and then back to me, matching my picture to my name and face. I studied her for any change in body language or any sign of recognition but relaxed slightly when she remained the same.
Seeming satisfied, the woman gave me a bored looking shrug and waved me forwards after scanning my ticket. Walking through the last checkpoint, I sighed in relief that the only thing I had to get through now was making sure I found the Alpha in Canada that I was looking for. I only had vague coordinates on the whereabouts of his pack and hoped it would be easy to locate.
My stomach twisted nervously when I realized I wasn't even sure what the current Alpha's name was. Since my parents had focussed a lot of my training on my healing affinity and leadership skills, I hadn't spent nearly enough time keeping up with the politics of our world. I had thought that I would have had a lot more time. For all I knew, the Alpha my father had connections with could be long gone by now.
One thing I did know for sure was that their pack was one of the largest in the world- and that at one point a long time ago, my father had been an ally of theirs. What their current standing was was a mystery to me.
When the time came to board the plane, I lined up like everyone else. It seemed to take forever, but soon I was sitting in the middle of the plane in between two middle aged women.
One of them was busy bouncing a baby boy on their knee, trying to keep the infant toddler from screaming bloody murder. A glance to my right told me that the other woman was already stuffing her headphones in, trying to avoid eye contact with everyone around her.
Making eye contact with the mother beside me, she gave me an apologetic smile and I responded with a pained one of my own.
Great, screaming babies. I thought to myself, praying that this flight went by quickly.
The speaker above us crackled on. "Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts. We are now preparing for takeoff..."
I tuned them out, turning instead to look out of the window. The flight attendants performed the safety demonstrations and soon after took their own seats as well.
The plane accelerated and I clutched at my armrest tightly, not enjoying the sensation of climbing higher into the sky. I closed my eyes, wishing that I had my parents beside me.
Eventually I felt the plane level out, arriving at the correct altitude we would be coasting at for the remainder of the flight.
Some time later, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I jumped violently, realizing that I had accidentally dozed off. The woman holding the baby was smiling at me guiltily.
"I am so sorry, but I was hoping you could hold my baby while I run to the washroom. I was waiting for a flight attendant to come around, but they seem really busy at the moment."
