Chapter Twenty-One
The twinkling in Bee's eyes hadn't dimmed even since I had dragged Gideon back inside from the car. He had said he was doing surveillance, yet I found him dozing off in the vehicle up the street again.
"So what did you want us in here for?" Gideon questioned suspiciously. I still hadn't told him what I had learned, and I honestly wasn't sure it was the best idea... however, since I was his future Alpha female, he should have to follow my orders just as he has to follow Greysons'.
I swallowed hard as Bee looked to me to take the lead. "Well..." I trailed off awkwardly.
Bee put her hand up in the air, "Perhaps it's better if I tell you my intentions for bringing you both here before you say anything further."
I gave a slight nod, not sure where she was going with all of this.
"Well, Gideon, Halle will fill you in when we're done here. However, I would appreciate no broken furniture in my home, thank you very much." She gave him a mischievous wink.
My cheeks reddened. So she was one of those grandmothers. I smiled at Gideon's uncomfortable expression.
I looked to Bee for more clarification. She rubbed her hands together anxiously.
"I've heard of the spell Agatha is talking about. By now, I'm sure you know that you were betrothed to her grandson and meant to take over as leaders of this coven. However... since fate had other plans, I feel as though she's doing everything in her power to change the course."
She paced the room. "The spell she is talking about has only been done once before. It was done as punishment to a murderous werewolf that reeked havoc on many covens throughout North America. Halle... it killed him."
I knew I had gone as white as a sheet, horrified at the news she was sharing. I wasn't sure why she had looked at me with such hope; why her eyes still danced with barely suppressed excitement.
"O-kay?" I breathed out evenly, trying to calm my fast beating heart.
Gideon growled, "What spell is she talking about, Halle? You can't keep me in the dark here. We're a team and while we're away it's my job to protect you."
I crinkled my nose. "First off, I'm perfectly capable of looking after myself. And second of all... I know we're a team. But what I'm about to tell you cannot be passed on to Greyson, or it could jeopardize the entire mission. It would distract him, Gideon. That's an order, do you hear me?" My voice was firm and unwavering.
He narrowed his eyes at me but didn't object. I wasn't sure if that meant he wasn't going to tattle on me or not, but I was past the point of being able to care about that anymore.
I just hoped he made the right decision.
I turned to face him hesitantly. "Agatha told me that someone with blood from the same coven that cast the spell, needs to willingly sacrifice themselves on behalf of the werewolves. She said that I would need to kill off my wolf in order for the spell to work to its best potential." I finished quietly.
Gideon stared at me silently and I could physically feel the heat coming off him as his rage slowly built to an inferno. His eyes flickered between his normal light grey eyes to the yellow eyes of his wolf. I swallowed heavily. This was the angriest I had ever seen him.
"It's the only way we've found that has the chance of saving everyone, Gideon." I pleaded for him to understand.
His voice shook when he finally responded. I knew he was doing his best to listen to what Bee had said about her furniture, but it was becoming harder for him to control his wolf.
