NINE

Greyson led me down the long hallway until we reached the grand foyer with white marble floors and a beautiful staircase that made me gape up at it in awe.

"I can't believe you live here." I muttered half heartedly. It was gorgeous, but I still missed the coziness of my pack house back home. Our wood pannelling had always reminded me of the large beautiful evergreen trees that expanded over our entire pack lands. A pang of homesickness made my eyes water.

He gave me a sidelong glance, "It's alright." He responded coolly.

Ah, so we're back to the cold, distant Greyson now. I thought in frustration. I couldn't understand him and his mood swings.

I rolled my eyes at his attitude and continued up the flight of stairs that led to the second floor. He walked towards a large door, swiping an access card on the way. Opening the door, I was greeted by yet another long modern looking hallway that had doors lining either side. This place was like a labyrinth. I would be lost already if Greyson wasn't by my side.

Reaching the end, we stopped in front of a sturdy door that had a golden plaque mounted to the front that read: Alpha Headquarters - Authorized personnel only.

I pursed my lips, wondering why he was leading me this way. He swiped yet another access card and swung open the dark mahoggany door, beckoning me forwards. I moved inside as he shut the door behind me. He tossed me the card and I fumbled, nearly dropping it.

We were standing in the most beautiful suite I had ever seen. The floors were a gorgeous dark wood, the walls were a glowing white that made the room even more brilliant with the natural lighting that came through the floor to ceiling windows. There were large french doors that led out onto a balcony that overlooked the training field and the small community of homes that were gathered on the property.

"Is this your room?" I narrowed my eyes at him. I was so not sharing a room with him.

Upon closer examination, however, I noticed that the room looked immaculately untouched.

He cast a long look out of the large windows and shook his head. "No," He responded finally.

When he didn't comment further, I ventured over towards a wall that had several pictures on it.

Curiosity filled me as I studied the black and white photo that pictured a joyous looking woman running towards the photographer. She was beautiful, looking to be in her late thirties in the photograph. I moved along the wall, looking at the next framed photo. This one showed a stern middle aged man looking at a newspaper with a small child balanced on his lap. The child was staring up at the man in admiration, although the father's full attention was on the newspaper.

I dared a peek up towards Greyson, who had been standing next to me silently as he watched me examine the photos. His lips were drawn into a firm line, as though he was going to pick me up and drag me out of the room at any second.

I raised an eyebrow at him in question.

"This was my mother's room." He eventually confided. A tingle went down my spine at his sudden proximity. The stubble on his chin brushed against my neck and I shivered in response.

Stepping backwards, I reclaimed the space that we previously had between us. I couldn't think properly when we were so close, and given the way he had been acting towards me, I wasn't sure he would mind anyways.

"Why did you bring me here then?" I asked him finally.

He made no comment as he walked towards the french doors. He opened them, allowing the brutal sounds from below to filter in through the fresh air. He stepped onto the large balcony and stood with his back facing me without explanation.
