As I entered the gelato shop, memories flooded my mind. Flashes of fun summers working here with my parents and friends from the pack caused my eyes to tear up.

It was eerily quiet inside and the air carried the scent of musk. Dust coated the shelves and counters and I shivered with unease. We usually only opened during the summer for the younger pack members to get some work experience and to integrate better with the humans in the area.  Of course, there were still plenty of rumours about us and the secrecy we carried with us, but that was expected in a small town.

It was pitch black. I headed towards the safe and unlocked it, grabbing all the money in sight. I would definitely be needing it during the next couple of months. I had a total of five thousand in cash and the pre-loaded black card had twenty thousand. Money wise, I was set for the journey ahead of me.

The black and white checkered floor squeaked beneath my shoes as I hastily ran around, grabbing a duffel bag and stuffing it with clothes from the emergency drawers we kept stocked at all times. I held my passport close as I darted out of the doors towards the car at the back of the building.

As I said before, we were notoriously ready for anything- not that we ever expected this to happen.

I sped out of the parking lot after filling up the gas tank and checked the empty road as I drove out of the alleyway. It was all clear- but I wasn't sure how much longer it would be that way.

For all I knew, I had already been discovered.

I had one destination in mind: the airport.

The airport was at least an hours drive from here, so I pressed my foot harder onto the pedal. My car sped up, albeit begrudingly, and I prayed there were no police officers on the roads nearby.

I watched as the trees flew by at alarming speeds. The forest beyond the road was dark and menacing, but it called to me. My animalistic side long to dart between the trees, the mossy underbrush soft against my pounding feet.

It took longer than I would have liked, but I soon found myself pulling into the departures area of the airport. I kept my head low, tucking my long brown hair into a baseball cap as I walked briskly to the ticket counters. I had purchased a one way ticket to Vancouver, Canada. From there I would have to get a connecting flight to Northern British Columbia, from which I would have to find my way to their pack territory to speak to their Alpha.

Typically, if you were intending to visit a neighbouring pack, you had to go through an application process beforehand. I would be dropping in unexpectedly, and, as a rogue wolf, I gauranteed it would not be smooth sailing. I prayed that although they were known for their brutality, that they would at least hear me out on behalf of my parents.

I reached the woman at the counter and presented her with my passport and ticket. I only had my duffel bag that I was using as a carry on, so I had no luggage to check.

The woman looked at me knowingly and I gave her a pained smile. "If anyone comes looking for me, please don't give them any information."

She gave me a silent nod and handed me back my passport, "Have a safe trip, Hon. Get yourself far away from here."

If only you knew... I thought dejectedly.

I cast a brief glance over my shoulder and sighed in relief when I didn't see anyone else entering the lobby. I passed through the gates and thanked the lucky stars my flight was scheduled to leave in the next hour.
