I stumbled into the hospital just as Jennifer arrived. So, I thought, it hadn't been a dream. I was tired from walking, I had cuts on my knees from tripping on the road, and worst of all, I had memories of seeing him.
Him.
Him.
Him.
Him.
Him.
Him.
I broke down in tears, right there in the lobby of the hospital. I sobbed until my throat hurt. Jennifer was right there with me the whole time. Rubbing my back comforting me, like a mom. Like a mom I never had. I sniffed, embarrassed about my little breakdown. I was pathetic. I stood up shakily, picking up my small suitcase. Jennifer held my hand as we walked out of the hospital and got into her small car. She put my stuff in the back. And we drove off. We were silent for a while. When Jennifer finally spoke, she said it quietly.
"I'm sorry" she muttered. My eyes widened in shock, why would she be sorry? I should be saying sorry, I'm a fragile little kid who should just suck it up and not let her waste her time taking care of me.
" I took you away from your family, I haven't even said anything to you." Tears were welling up in her eyes.
"Jennifer," I said shyly, "I don't know how long I'm gonna stay with you and I'm pretty sure that every minute I'm gonna enjoy myself. When you helped me when I was sad, that meant the world to me, I've never had a mom who did that. Please, don't cry, you've given me a dream, that's now becoming real." Tears were not silently running down her face. I managed a tight Smile.
"Thank you Hope" she said as she wiped her eyes, "that was so sweet." Then we arrived at her house. I almost passed out right then, right there.
