Hopes POV
He was the kinda guy who was there one minute, gone the next. It was frustrating at first, but you got used to It. He had the had black hair, pale skin. His completion was scattered with freckles. His eyes were so black, you could fall into them. His style was... Different. Sure he wore snap backs and basketball shoes, but no skinny jeans. Just sports gear. I first met him when I was playing soccer at the park in those few days before school started. He never told me his name, or for that fact, anything about himself. We played. Hard. He was good. At school, I first noticed him slinking through the hallways. He kept his head down and eyes on the ground. Headphones slung across his neck causally. Then I lost sight of him.
The first day of school was going pretty well. Sure I had had my unfortunate experience with Tracy, but other than that, I was doing well. My gym teacher hated me so that was fun. And trust me, everyone in the class knew. I walked in and right away,
"You're late!" And old lady said. She had a mole just above her upper lip. It had a single hair growing from it. Her voice.... She had like a, a lisp. But she sounded like she didn't have a nose. A gurgling spitting noise. Almost like she was choking. Without a nose.
"Sorry." I mumbled. Best not to speak to loudly.
"Speak up child!" She slurred. Spit flying from her mouth. I winced as the wet droplets hit me on the cheek. She smiled creepily. That's when I got a good look at her teeth. They were yellow, crooked, and covered in brown splotches. Kind of like her nails. Except she painted them that way.😳. She stepped forward. The smell hit me like a punch. Choking me. I coughed.
"Sor *cough* ry! *cough*" I began to take deep short breaths through my mouth, the smell might have gone away but I still had a nice view of her dandruff. Of though it could be lice... You never know. She laughed. No, she cackled. An ear splitting laugh that ran through the gym. It sounded like someone was gargling water. But high pitched. And loud. I cringed and backed up. Kelsey was looking at me apologetically. So was the boy. Mystery man. He was looking at me out from under his bangs. His gaze switched to the ground as he noticed me staring. I mentally groaned. Why wouldn't he talk to me already. My real problem came back to mind.
"Sorry!" I said confidently. I walked away. Or at least I started to.
"Little girllllll!" She spit making my tummy turn. I turned around slowly.
"Yes!" I answered curtly. Bad. Idea.
"Don't sass me! Now drop and give me 20." She laughed. Hah! Sorry old lady, but I'm good at push-ups. I bet she thinks very kid would be angry at this. But point for Hope! Just play it cool. That's why she hates me. I played it cool. Never play it cool with an old Lady that sounds a little like Godzilla. No seriously they could of just recorded her laughing and boom! You got Godzilla.
I stepped onto the bus after school and blocked out the world. When I was the last one on, my favorite song came on. Take it off by Ke$ha.
"There's a place downtown where the freaks all come around
It's a hole in the wall, it's a dirty free for all
And they turn me on, when they take it off
When they take it off, everybody take it off
There's a place I know if you're looking for a show
Where they go hardcore and there's glitter on the floor
And they turn me on, when they take it off
When they take it off, everybody take it off
Lose your mind, lose it now
Lose your clothes in the crowd
We're delirious, tear it down
'Til the sun comes back around-" I sung.
I suddenly heard a voice that scared me out of my mind. A voice I knew.
"Nice voice!" He said. What? Nsgdgfdh. Oh well. I stopped singing and looked around. In the seat across from me sat a boy. A boy that I needed to know.
"Thanks! Didn't see you there. I'm Hope by the way!" I said nervously. He looked at me curiously.
"I know." Was all he said. The bus creaked to a halt and he hopped off, waving as he left. I watched as he faded into the distance.
"You gonna get off sweetie?" The bus driver asked. I nodded quickly. And ran off the bus...
