KABLUEY
It was dawn when we left, the early morning sun was just peeking over the hilltops. We could still see the raging fire miles away that had started in our house. All because of, them. The creatures from the strange green balls outside. They were different from anything we had ever seen before. I can't describe them, because at the first sight of flames, we had fled. We stumbled along the empty road, the adrenalin slowly draining from our bodies. Maybe it was the fact that all hope of finding shelter was crumbling slowly away. The creatures, Kabluey as we called them, were on our trail. We had no idea why, or how they would find us, all we knew, was that we had to keep dragging our feet all the way to the safe haven. If the safe haven was a myth as everyone said, we were doomed. No food, no water, and now, no hope. The road ahead stretched farther than the eye could see, with still no sight of the safe haven. I had tried to jog, but my companions had refused, it was useless. Behind us was the ever nearing sound of nails on a chalk bored. I stole a glance behind us and cringed at what I saw. The sound of the creaky metallic monster still in hot pursuit.
We had to think of something quick. The monsters now loomed out at us, blocking the searing hot sun. It was now noon in the Maeka desert. Our parched throats were no use for talking. All around us Were tall grass stems, yellow and dead. I could feel the vibrations as the tumbleweed like Monsters gained on us. I screamed in agony as one of the spikes on the monster flew off and grazed my neck. I touched the spot where it had nicked me, and there, a green substance seeping into my system, and hardening around the cut. I could already tell that the Kabluey had deadly aim, and they could have killed me quickly; but no, I was to die slowly, and painfully as the poison in the spike over came my system. I choked back tears, and grabbed my companions by the arms, dragging them off the empty dirt road. They were still dazed, the spike had come out of nowhere, and if they hadn't been scared earlier, they were scared now. They all stared in shock at the wound which I was guessing was an ugly shade of purple.
"Ok," I croaked, the dust and lack of water hurt my throat. "The spikes have poison on them, and the only weapons we have are steak knives. He have to run to them and get so close that A. We can hit them, and B. The spikes are useless because they have to fire them." The grass around us was beginning to get smokey, the outer bits in flames. I hurried on. "I thought I might of seen a weakness, but I'm not sure. We need to lure them into the grass isn't so easy to navigate through. Yes, there will be rocks, but if we fall, they can't see us." My companions nodded in agreement. My eyes were beginning to water, the smoke probably turning them red. "On the count of three!" I coughed. "One, two, THREE!!!!!" We charged.
Please remember to check out my new book, "THE IMAGE IF PERFECTION" coming out this week, I'm super exited!!!!
