Shard turned to me grinning for, ‘god-alone-knows-what’.
“Well are you ready to take the first step into your new life?”
“No, but it looks like I don’t have a choice so…yeah I’m ready.”
“Good enough.” He grabbed my arm and pulled me out the door, into a white hallway. It took some time but we eventually found our way outside through two ginormous doors. I tried my best to remember all the twists and turns we took, but none of it registered into my brain. It was all just too much. After many tugs and many groans of fatigue, we finally stopped walking. I was gasping for breath. Damn, we were walking pretty fast. We were now in a garden that had many hallways leading to it. The one that we took was who knows where. There were way too many halls. He looked fine, but I was exhausted. Beads of sweat rolled down my face. Oh jeez, I was practically soaking wet in sweat. He looked at me and realised that I was on the brink of collapsing once again. I saw him put his hand in his pocket, searching for something. He finally took his hand out his pocket with a handkerchief in his hand. He handed it to me. It was black with his initials S.S. embroidered in white on it. I attempted to dry my face with it. For something so small, it did the job just right. I felt much better just parched.
“Sorry about that. I forgot that you have not, yet, found your inner power, and that you have not been taught what the source of that power is.”
“Okay, well firstly: I have no idea what it is you’re talking about. Secondly: Thanks for at least recognising whatever it is that saved me from practically dying.”
He chuckled. It made me smile to hear him laugh. It has been about the fourth time i made him laugh since I met him. Am I really that funny? I made a mental note to keep him laughing. One reason: He looked like he enjoyed it. Second reason: I love to make people laugh and smile. It made me feel like smiling, sometimes I laugh along with them. After he stopped laughing he stared at me. He looked like he wanted to say something but couldn’t.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, the curious side of me over-powering the ‘need-to-back-off’ side.
“I’m just curious, is all. I…hear…your thoughts and I hear a lot of regret at the back of your thoughts. You cover up what you really feel, with false feelings. Why?”
That’s it. Just like that. My cover has been blown. I have to tell someone how tough it was for me to leave home. But I couldn’t. At least not him. I clamped down on my thoughts and I saw him stagger back a little. He shook his head dazed and confused.
“What?”
“How did you do that just now?”
“I…uhhhh, well-”
The bushes behind us started to rustle. It made me jump but it made Shard get into stance, ready to fight. Then we both heard loud yelling. At first it was a little muffled because of the distance but then we heard more clearly as the person made their way closer towards us. A girl stepped out from behind the bush. She looked a lot like Shard. Same dirty-blond hair (except it was long and wavy), same green eyes and even the same mark, just on the opposite cheek.
“Shard, you little piece of crap! I told you to call me when she wakes up! Did you? No! This is what I get for trusting you. You little scum.”
“Sorry Snow I forgot about that. I was all caught up in-”
“Wait, wait, wait! ‘caught up’? She is my roommate. Back off!”
Wait…what!? She thinks we were…doing something!? I shuddered but they were too busy swearing at each other to even notice.
