I walked into my room and flipped on the light. I looked around and started to feel homesick. I missed Annie, I missed Nicki, I missed my old room…I even missed Declan. I threw myself onto my bed and stared at the ceiling. I thought about how much I missed my old life, then it hit me like a ton of bricks.
“Holy crap! I forgot Nicki gave me something!” I said aloud and jumped out of bed.
I went through my dirty clothes from yesterday and found my jacket that I put it in. I dug through the pockets and found it. The locket she gave me. I opened it and almost cried. It was a picture of Declan, Nicki and I when we were like eight and on the other side was a recent picture of all three of us, again. Tears threatened to fall but I kept them back. I put the locket on one time and got up. I past in front the mirror and checked my outfit to see if it still looked good enough for a date. Well dinner with Ché. It’s technically not a date. We’re just…friends. I fixed my hair a bit and put on a fresh coat of nail polish on my well-manicured nails. I did my special way of doing it. The classic Alexis; black nail polish with white nail polish on the tips. Then after it dried, I put tiny skull stickers on my nails. I walked down stairs and looked around. Some girls were having a movie night and some just didn’t want to go eat in the café. So they had their own dinner (which let me say was food they snuck in) in the dorms. I saw Ruth and she waved at me. I smiled and waved back. As soon as I opened the door I saw Ché and Shadow, sitting next to him. Ché was in a white ‘BITE ME’ shirt that had a vampire mouth open, showing its teeth, on it, white jeans and white converse.
“So you keep all your guys waiting.” He said sarcastically.
I giggled and said, “Who, him? Nah, he’s a big old teddy bear.”
I bent down and scratched Shadow’s head. He loved it and licked my hand.
“Hmm, you look like you did something different with your outfit.” Ché tapped his finger lightly on his chin.
I rolled my eyes then scratched my head and flashed my nails in his direction.
“Ah, yes. Your nails. It looks pretty cool.”
“Thanks and I see we’re matching now. All white.” I smiled.
“Yeah, I couldn’t help it. So you ready?” He asked.
“Yep. So where are we going?”
“I was thinking…Buzo restaurant.” He grinned.
“Buzo restaurant!? That is like really expensive.” I motioned my hand in the way people do when they talk about money; rubbing the tips of your fingers against each other.
“Nothing’s too expensive for you, mi princesa. Oh, wait. Let me re-phrase that. Nothing is too expensive…for your mother. And you know the saying, ‘Like mother like daughter.’” He smiled a cocky smile.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I’m all high royalty. Now let’s just go.” I rolled my eyes.
He unfurled his wings. This time they didn’t have any black on them. They were all white. They were so gorgeous. They were shining so bright it burned. But I couldn’t take my eyes away from them. This was an angel’s true beauty. His wings stretched far and wide. It was truly a glorious sight. Again, my wings were threatening to sprout out. They were pushing their way out. I wrapped my arms around me and rubbed the area where my wings would be. I tried to calm it down. But it wouldn’t listen.
“Your wings. They’re pushing its way through, aren’t they? But you’re holding it back?” He asked.
I nodded. Obviously this happened to other people around him before. He chuckled and smiled at me, ever so innocently.
