I ran to the gate as fast as I could. But as I approached the gate, a figure started to form. I kept on running not minding it at all. A little company while I wait for a whole hour isn’t so bad. As I got closer to the gate, the figure became clearer and clearer. I skid to a stop when the person was in full view.

Declan…

I wanted to turn and run away, back to Nate, since he is after all the only one that knows about Declan. But I did not; I would not; I could not. Instead, I calmly made my way over to him. He was on the other side of the gate. He didn’t notice me. He kept his head down, looking at his phone. I cleared my throat to get his attention. His head shot up at me. I put my hands behind my back, tilted my head to the right and raised a sharp, curious eyebrow at him with a constant expression on my face. Not pleased at all.

“A-Alexis?” He asked only above a whisper and squinted to see if it was me.

“No. The ghost of freaking Christmas,” I said sarcastically, rolled my eyes and then continued, “of course it’s me!”

Idiot. I said in thought rather than out loud.

“Please. Listen to me.” He pleaded.

“I have an hour, I’m hungry, I have no time to chat.” I said rather harshly.

“An hour is all I need! I’ll take you the Café you love so much! I’ll even pay!” He pleaded.

He was desperate. I folded my arms and pondered about it for a minute.

“Fine. Only because I’m low on funds and I’m starving. Let’s go.” I was out the gate already and motioning for him to come.

“W-Wait for me!” He ran after me.

I don’t know why I want to hear him. I have tons of money!

Funny fact. I lived in an orphanage but when I first arrived there, I had a bank left with a shit-load of cash.

Maybe a part of my heart was just glad he still cared?

Hell! To the No!

Yeah that can’t be it. But what else could it be? Do I miss him?

No!

Nah. Not it. Do I still-…No I can’t…Do I still love him after what he did to me!?

My heart pounded against my rib cage. I clutched my chest and fell to my knees. I breathed heavily.

This isn’t good.

“Alexis! Are you all right?” Declan ran up to me and skid to a stop.

“Tonto…” was all I could mumble.

I heaved a few times.

“Do you need me to call a doctor?” Worry flashed across his features.

“N-No. Just keep your distance.” I pushed him away.

He backed away from me, about ten feet. I got up and dusted off the front of my leggings. The distance made me feel better, but my chest still ached. I held my chest. It felt tight.

“Let’s just go. You can get close but keep talking about things. I need to get my mind off of something.” I waved him over.

“Okay. How about you and m-”

“Anything but that!” I yelled and cut him off.

He shrank away. The walk was silent. Street lights lit our way down the narrow pathway very dimly. In the distance you could hear the ‘hooting’ of an owl. This walk is taking too long. It was early in the morning. I don’t even know how Declan is holding up. He is a day-walker after all. My body stiffened.
