We'd already established that there was no possibility of any settlement out of court.
"So there won't be a need for Tamika to have a lawyer."
"Why doesn't she need a lawyer?"
"Because she's very young and it's not like she's a teenager or around that age. Even though, her preference will be taken into account because it's about her.
"So what's gonna happen? Who will we need?"I crossed my legs.
"Y'all will need a few witnesses to back you stating that Tami'll be best with you and this can be anybody who knows both of you and Miss Knowles. There's also going to be a caseworker showing up at your house but it's never told when they're coming and who they are."
"What's this caseworker gonna do?"
"The caseworker will see y'all home in the way it is and that's why the visit is unexpected. They'll talk to whoever lives at home. That's your sister and nephew, Beyoncé?"
"Yeah, but will that affect our case? I mean two adults, one teenager and two children doesn't look too good under one roof,"I frowned. I wasn't gonna tell Solange to go because of this case because she's my sister but we needed to know our chances.
"It won't affect the case if it's shown that both of you can provide enough evidence that y'all can maintain the best life for everyone living under that roof. There's also going to be a Guardian ad litem who will investigate the case and recommend who Tamika is best living with,"Jay and I nodded understanding what she said.
"What can we do right now?"Jay inquired.
"Build up a case against Miss Knowles and Mr Carter. Any underlying secrets, crimes, whatever. It may feel like you're snaking out both your families but they'll be doing the same to you and it's what's needed to be done to get custody of Tamika,"we nodded again.
"Is that all we're doing now?"
"Yes. We'll meet again next week as the hearing is in two weeks and see what y'all got,"we stood up and hugged her again. Gabrielle was really helping us with our case.
Once we left we went straight home. Jay was quiet on the way so I decided to speak up.
"Are you okay? You quieter than usual,"I worriedly asked. He nodded still keeping his eyes on the road.
