Chapter 18

Zia

The threat about the surprise had made everyone wary about what might happen. It had been a few days since Logan's visit and everybody was on the edge. The boys had to go back to their pack to check on their issues. It had been too long and they didn't want to endanger anybody. I was in my office checking the recent border casualty number and assessing the strength of my warriors when suddenly Luke, a warrior banged open my door. I just turned to look at him in time to see his face paling. "What happened Luke?" I asked. He was stuttering, mumbling rubbish. "Louder Luke! What is it?" I snarled. That brought him back on earth and he spoke loud enough, "Border.......Logan......Amber." I didn't wait longer. I dashed out, pulling Luke by the arm to guide me. I mindlinked both Lara and Jenny and soon both of them were running with me to the spot. When we reached, Luke pointed to a tree. There was a note on the bark with a small packet,

You should know that you women are not strong enough. This will help remind you to respect me the next time.

I gingerly opened the packet. My senses had already picked up the horrid scent. It was a finger, Amber's finger to be exact. I had given her the ring that was on it, a sign of appreciation for her work. I was angry beyond measure at this point. I was at a stage of anger only few had seen me in. My eyes started flashing wildly, growls escaping my mouth. Lara approached me cautiously, "Zia please relax. Don't lose it now." But I was way past the point of relaxing. I turned towards Luke, threw him the package, subconsciously noting his flinch and growled, "Get trackers. Find where he is. Give me results in twenty minutes." Nodding, he ran away. As I watched him, I felt black dots come in my vision and starting my descent to the ground. But I didn't hit that ground, instead I fell into arms. Familiar ones. The last thing I heard," Zia......."

Jack

We had been on our way back from our pack. Staying away for long durations can be an issue so we decided to visit. It was near the border, where the patrol now recognised us enough to let us know that Zia was at other side of the pack. At one sudden moment Ace started whining inside my head. Mate in trouble . Go fast.... At the same time the guards all clutched at their heads. I didn't wait to ask what was wrong. I quickly shifted into my wolf and bounded towards my mate, searching for Zia. Paul and Larry too shifted and followed. My senses took me towards the side where the border connected with Logan's pack. I reached just in time to hear Zia growling and her pack member scurrying away. When I looked at her, I was shocked. Her eyes were glowing a purple colour , her claws were elongated. Lara and Jenny stood stoic at a distance. I rushed towards her just in time to catch her as she blacked out. I breathed out
"Zia......."

So another mystery? What's with the purple eyes? And what on earth is Logan up to?
