A/N Hey guys! I'm sorry nothing has really happened so far; the show is so focused on what goes wrong on the Doctor's adventures that I thought I'd take a chance to show some of the trips he takes where everything goes as planned. Now that Maddison has seen the beauty of time travel, she'll be finding out about the danger too ;) and so don't worry, this chapter will bring some more action. Thanks for reading and sorry I took a couple month-long gap. Don't forget to wear your seatbelts!
"Right then," The Doctor said after a brief moment of silence. Leo looked up from the object he was tinkering with, showing Jack, and Lisa stepped toward him. "Now that you've met your hero," He turned to me, "We should be off. I've delayed a bit too long and we have a bit of a problem back in your time."
At first I thought The Doctor was being a little too vague, until I remembered the chubby man I had seen when I first encountered The Doctor. He had spoken to him as if he were an alien and The Doctor had said he would cause trouble. That was probably what they needed to deal with. I nodded and started to follow him out the door, but looked back to see Jack sadly saying his goodbye to Leo. When they finally tore away from each other, Leo looked disappointed but Jack turned around with fresh eyes, ready for their next adventure.
I said goodbye to Lisa, the object of the most famous painting in the entire world, and looked at the fascinating child one last time in awe before heading out the door behind The Doctor. These last few hours had been amazing, and I was having trouble believing it was all real. I had to pinch myself to be sure it wasn't all a dream.
Stepping back inside the TARDIS after what I had just experienced seemed like stepping into a whole other world. I was surprised at the familiarity of the spaceship after having only been in it twice. It felt a little like home.
"Jack, we have to deal with another of the Slytheen clan back in 2017," The Doctor said as he pulled a lever and flipped a switch. Holding another lever with his right hand and hitting a button with his foot, the TARDIS began wailing again and the cool blue lights in the middle started dancing.
"Another? I thought they all died!"
"Well, one did escape, so how are we to know another didn't?"
"I guess that's true," Jack replied, a look of contemplation on his face. "Do you think he knows what happened to his sister?"
"Probably not, considering she thought all of them had died, too. If he knew, he would have sought her out."
Although I had no idea what my boys were talking about, I was glad to be part of it. I knew something big was about to happen, even though I didn't know about what had happened before. "Who are the Slytheen? Is that a type of alien?" I asked
The Doctor chuckled. "They are aliens, but Slytheen is a family name. Their species is Raxicoricofalipitorian, and the Slytheen family has given me problems twice before. It seems one of the siblings survived the last time, though," he explained patiently. I nodded.
"So we have to get rid of the living relative before he..."
"Scraps the Earth and sells it for parts," Jack finished.
"Ah," I said in understanding.
The sound of the TARDIS stopped, and I knew we had landed. Jack stepped outside first, and I followed, taken aback by the overwhelming smell of gasoline and sewage. We were under a bridge, beneath a busy highway where traffic was terrible and there were hundreds of cars idling in the road. After spending only the short amount of time where Leonardo DaVinci lived, I had easily grown accustomed to the fresh, unpolluted air of the sixteenth century.
The Doctor led the way to a set of stairs leading up to the highway on top of the bridge. Our party of three walked along the shoulder for quite some time before reaching a restaurant along the pier. "Hey, isn't this where..." Jack trailed off.
"Where we took the Slytheen sister for her last meal before seeing the heart of the TARDIS? Yes, it is," The Doctor answered. "I was thinking that the surviving brother might have found her scent by now and been tracking her down. By my calculations, if he has been tracking her scent, he should be arriving here at any moment now."
The three of us entered the shop and sat down at a table, Jack ordering chips and me getting crisps. I still didn't understand why Brits called French Fries "chips" and potato chips "crisps," but figured as long as I was here, I may as well speak the language. As soon as Jack sat down with his chips, The Doctor glanced toward the front door and stiffened. He eyed the chubby man that had just walked in.
I turned toward the door and saw the man, but it wasn't the same man I had seen earlier. The Doctor was still eyeing him suspiciously. He ordered no food, but stood near the door with his head sticking out and his eyes squinting. He looked like he was... sniffing?
The hefty young man looked around the restaurant, and when his eyes met The Doctor's, he did a double take and froze, eyes wide. He immediately put his head down and quickly shuffled out of the building.
"Time to go!" The Doctor said, shoving a chip into his mouth and scooting out of the leather booth as fast as one can scoot out of a leather booth. We took off running toward the chubby, waddling, pig-like man down the street.
