Chapter Eighty Three

Meanwhile, Dei notices that Richard is not enjoying the party anymore. Boredom is very evident to her husband as he prefers to tinker on his phone instead of rooming around to greet some business colleagues.

"Would you like to leave now kamahalan?" she whispered but Charmaine heard her

"Something wrong Mom?" she asked Dei

"Bored na si Daddy mo sa party eh"  Dei replied

"Ako rin naman po Mommy, bored din. Gusto ko nang umalis. Same faces and same topics wala tayong makukuhang maganda sa gathering na ito" Charmaine said

"Ssshhhh lower your voice Charmaine baka may makarinig sa yo, nakakahiya" Dei said

"I'm alright, I just find the band too noisy. Hindi pa tayo nakikita ng nagpapa-party. Let's have a little chat with them first then we will leave" Raffy said

Fortunately the party host approached their table to greet them.  As agreed they will have a short talk before they leave.  The host recalls meeting Charmaine in an event in the past.

"I'm glad to see you Mary Charmaine, the last time I saw you was during an event in your school" the party host said

"Talaga po sir, nakarating na po kayo sa school namin before? I’m sorry, I can’t remember meeting you before" Charmaine asked

"It’s alright iha, we were not introduced then anyway. My niece is studying in your school, according to her you are one of those popular students in your time. Wait nandito sya eh" the host said and quickly called his niece to introduce to Richard and Dei. "Richard this is my niece. Jade he is the owner of Royalties Hotel, Dei his wife and I believe you know Charmaine and her fiancee. You were in the same school right?"

"Hello sir, ma'am. Hi Charmaine, Tristan nice to see you again" Jade greeted them sweetly

"Hello Jade" Charmaine greeted back

"Where is Athena? Nasa Germany pa rin po ba?" Jade asked

"Athena just got back from Germany, hindi na sumama kasi may jet lag eh" Dei replied

"You know my other daughter too? Where did you meet her? Are you one her friend who knows that she is currently based in Germany?" Richard asked

"Nung December ko lang po sya nameet. Nung supposed wedding ni Charmaine. I attended that mass for your fast recovery sir" Jade replied

"Wow thank you very much for attending that event Jade" Dei said

"You're welcome Ma'am, si Athena po hindi ko schoolmate but Raffy her boyfriend was my senior, we belong to the same org that time" Jade replied

"Ahhh Jade ...." Charmaine begins talking

"Oopppsss .... I'm sorry po, that's supposed to be a secret pala until Athena finishes her school.  You are not supposed to know that Athena and Raffy are already engaged" Jade said

"It's alright Jade, we already know that Raffy and Athena are in a relationship. There's really nothing to hide" Richard quickly replied

“That’s nice to hear po sir.  I actually envy the ring. It is so beautiful” Jade said “I have to excuse myself po, I need to attend to some guests” Jade politely uttered

“Yes Jade, no problem.  Thank you for your time” Richard said and Jade courteously left.

Richard prefers to be mum after their encounter with Jade.  In his mind, what jade just uttered is not new to him.  He knows about Athena and Raffy’s relationship as well as their engagement.  But he could not deny that he is a bit hurt, knowing that Athena was able to tell her friends about her engagement with Raffy while she chooses to hide it from him and Dei.  Now he is confused if his second princess trusted more her friends than them.

“Are you alright Dad? You seem to be in deep thought” Charmaine said

“Pagod lang ako sweetheart” Richard replied and trying so hard to smile so that Charmaine would not notice his dilemma.

“Then we should go home now your highness, baka kung ano pa ang mangyari sa iyo dito sa party” Dei declared and stands up to inform the party host that they need to leave early because Richard’s condition.

While in the car, Richard still remains quiet and Dei is beginning to worry.  She knows that the silence is about their recent talk with Jade.  But what she could understand is why Richard seems to be very affected with the information that he knew all along.

“Kamahalan, are you sure you’re alright?” she asked

“Don’t mind me, napagod lang ako.  Hindi yata ako talaga pwede sa mga ganung gatherings” Richard replied

“You know that Charmaine will buy that reasoning but I won’t, what’s on your mind” Dei said  

“Do you think we have been hard to our children for them to trust other people rather than us?” Richard asked 

“What made you say that?” Dei asked to further understand where Richard’s predicament is coming from

“Athena told her about the engagement while she has not told us about her relationship with Raffy yet.  She even saw the ring which I thought will be chosen by myself just like with Charmaine” Richard said

“Please stop worrying your highness.  We raised our children well. They trust us more than anyone else.  I’m sure there is a good explanation on why Athena told Jade about the engagement.  And I intend to know what is that explanation” Dei said. 

“Also, don’t think that Athena loves us less because she chooses to keep her relationship with Raffy from us.  Di ba nga sabi ni Raffy, Athena is afraid that she might disappoint us because he is having a hardtime in school at the same time had a relationship with him” Dei added and Richard just kissed her on her forehead giving her assurance that he is fine.

Richard is aware that Dei is beginning to be disturbed about what he is feeling at the moment.  He may not tell her but he knows that his wife knows that he is hurting.  Now he realized how hard his Dad deals with him in the past because among his children it is Athena whom he considered his mini me.
