"Babe wake up. I ordered a pizza!" Cornyn said, walking into our room. He was carrying a pizza box in his arms and steam flowed out of the holes of the box. The smell of cheesy goodness drifted through the air and I immediately sprang out of bed, hungry for pizza. He set it down on the nightstand and we ate while watching The Great British Baking Show. We finished the whole box within fifteen minutes.
"Ahhhhhh," he sighed. "Boy do I miss times like this. Where we could just sit around and eat all day. Like when we were teenagers." He laughed. I nodded. "I second that."
"I was thinking. Are you ready? For another baby I mean." He said quietly. I stopped watching tv.
"I don't know, Babe. I feel like I'd be... like, replacing Alex or something. I wouldn't be able to do that. Not now at least." I replied. He nodded.
"Ok. Maybe in the future."
I got up and walked down the hallway into Alex's room. His Ninja Turtles bedsheets were flat and smoothed across his bed. His train table still had the trains on it that he played with a few weeks ago. His toy story lamp, still on because if It was the last thing I have that he turned on. I went into his closet and trailed my hand across his clothes that hang where he left them. At the top of his closet, I saw something red and shiny. I reached for it and pulled down a small box wrapped in sparkly red paper. There was a note on it, in Alex's sloppy toddler handwriting.
It said:
To Mommy. From Alex.
