August 28, 1984 - A hotel somewhere in Leeds
For the past two hours Arabella sat in this uncomfortable hotel room, tapping her pencil against the notebook sitting in front of her lap, aimlessly staring at the keyboard in front of her.
She needed to get this song out and she needed to get it out now but nothing was coming to her.
"Haze?" She sighed, finally giving in to collaborating with Haze. It was not that she didn't want to collaborate with her, it was just that she was intimidated by her abilities and she felt like she would have nothing to offer if she sat down to write with her friend. She was sure Haze could ink out a whole song alone in an hour. Haze had done it once.
"Yes, my love?" She looked up from her book.
"Lets see what magic we can create." Arabella watched her facial expression go from blank to excited as she hopped off her bed and pulled out her acoustic guitar from its case. She'd been a little off lately and song writing might be the only thing to get her head cleared. She sat on Arabella's bed, securely positioning her guitar on her thigh and strumming a few times to make sure it was tuned.
"What do you have so far?" Haze looked on the blank sheet of paper, only to see a question mark in the top margin. "That's a start." She joked. "Do you have any ideas?"
"Andy and our dysfunction, perhaps?" She felt her body heat up with embarrassment. Arabella was starting to sweat from how nervous she was.
Haze closed her eyes, her eyelids flickering with every genius thought that would come to her. She tilted her head to the side, opening her mouth, "We're stuck on this dysfunction, we love it to our death..." She opened her eyes, waiting for Arabella's approval. "Yeah?"
"YES!" Arabella fumbled to get the notebook on her lap so write out the lyrics.
"It gives me a pre-chorus feel, so label it as that, if we change our minds we can always erase it." She assured, gently grazing the pads of her fingers over the strings of her guitar, causing the slightest of sounds to murmur.
"We celebrate destruction, by lighting up this bed." Arabella recited, not even paying attention to the words coming out of her mouth.
"Write that down! It was perfect!" Haze was bouncing on the bed, shaking one of her fists in the air, almost losing her guitar pick. Arabella loved how excited she was getting about this, it made her nerves ease away...only a bit though. "Lets get the chorus out of the way, yeah?'
Arabella dipped my head, biting the center part of the pencil, turning it over to find a fresh, non-bitten spot to sink her teeth into.
It only took them, maybe, two hours to get the final product. It was one of the best writing sessions Arabella ever had with someone. She had my fair share of writing sessions with Loch but Loch didn't have the patience to let the lyrics come to him like Haze did. Haze felt the lyrics with her soul before putting them out into the world, it was a beautiful thing.
Put your swords away
I'm already down
The higher we both climb
The further we fall
Now we're under looking up into the floor
And burn each other though we're dying for more
We're stuck on this dysfunction, we love it to our death
We celebrate destruction by lighting up this bed
You can take your love away
But don't you ever leave me alone
Burn the ghosts we've carried home
Come on, touch me
Show me you're imperfect, too
These broken lights
They shine on us tonight
We don't talk much
When there's so much to say
We don't listen, but yet we try anyway
My stomach feels sick, bitter, and open
Reveries of helplessness
Have left me all but hopin'
We strip each other's beauty
We push it to the end
We face each other smiling
And leave it all unsaid
You can take your love away
But don't you ever leave me alone
Burn the ghosts we've carried home
Come on, touch me
Show me you're imperfect, too
These broken lights
They shine on us tonight
We kiss till we bleed
We feel so much it's killing us
We fight till were free
And he threatens to leave but won't let me
We cry till we see
Infatuations break us down
We're healing at three
We dance inside this tragedy
We dance inside this tragedy
You can take your love away
But don't you ever leave me alone
Burn the ghosts we've carried home
Come on, touch me
Show me you're imperfect, too
These broken lights
They shine on us tonight..."It still needs a title..." Haze's tapped her finger against the body of the instrument.
