"I'm sorry! How was I supposed to know he was your ex?" Lauren groaned as I glared at her again.

"Do a background check on him? Isn't it suspicious that he would search for a girlfriend right after he returned from overseas?" I threw my hands up in exasperation.

"I didn't know that he returned from another country! Besides, do I look like FBI to you?" Lauren pouted as she patted my head, "Don't be angry, okay?" I sighed.

After arriving home from the horrendously terrible conversation I had with Hayden, I immediately called Annie, Brynn and Lauren over for a sleepover.

Lauren came in high spirits, thinking I was excited to share my 'awesome date' with her, instead I met her with a stormy face.

"What's wrong? Did he have bad table manners?" she asked, concerned as I rolled my eyes. Table manners? That's all she could think of?

"Did he give out body odour?" Brynn piped up.

"I wish,"

"Don't tell me it was even worse,"

"Of course it was! It was my ex!"

"Kenzie's ex? Oh my, that scumbag, how I wish I was there to punch the daylights out of him," Brynn narrowed her eyes.

Agreeing with Brynn, I proceeded to rant about me and Hayden's complicated past. The whole time, I shot Lauren torturous looks while she squirmed uncomfortably under my gaze.

After I finished raving, Lauren still looked apologetic while Annie stared thoughtfully at me, her knees pulled up to her chest.

"He's so mean, I was so devastated at that time, I spent three whole weeks finding him, but he disappeared! Just like this!"

"Terrible,"

"And he thought that I would welcome him with open arms!"

"Horrible,"

"Kenzie, I would like to get back with you, what a joke!"

"What a joke!"

"Oh, shut up Lauren, it's your fault," I groaned as she gave me her puppy eyes. Irresistible. Suddenly, Annie interrupted my thoughts.

"Have you ever thought that he might have a reason for leaving and he might still love you a lot?" Annie asked while I stared wide eyed at her.  Please don't tell me she's on Hayden's side.

"Don't look at me like that, Kenz, of course I support you. I just that I think there has to be a reason for everything to happen," she mused and I sighed.

"You think too much, Anns," I poked her in the ribs gently.

"Maybe," We lapsed into silence.

"He used to give me the jitters, you know? But now all I feel is strong hatred," I admitted, staring at my hands.

Annie didn't answer this time, she was staring at the window, looking thoughtful, while Lauren had a pained expression on her face.

'This is so messed up,' she groaned, twisting a lock of hair in her fingers as Brynn nodded dejectedly.

I sighed for the umpteenth time as I played with the frayed ends of my pillow.

My life was such a mess. With things going all wrong left and right, I didn't know how I was going to survive.

Lauren, Brynn and Kenzie were groaning in frustration as they talked about what had happened. I wasn't listening though, because I was too engulfed in my thoughts. What happened between this Hayden guy and Kenzie was so complicated, and I definitely understood why Kenzie felt this way. From what she described, he was the plain epitome of a typical jerk. However, I had a gut feeling that there is two sides to this story.

So I am going to find Hayden, ask for his side of the story, and clear the shit between Kenzie and him if that's the last thing I would do.

Johnny wasn't happy about the blind date that Kenzie was set up on. He could only growl in frustration as he waited for her to reach home, hopefully looking mad - which meant that the blind date was a fail. He didn't even understand why he was so nervous, why he was pacing around for the past few minutes, or why he was trying to read a book that was upside down.

Finally, he could hear heels clicking on the pavement. Like a little boy who was waiting for the ice cream man, he leapt to the window, watching Kenzie walk into her house in elation. She looked furious, but a tinge of sadness dusted her eyes.

Johnny sighed. He had hoped for her to be angry, but he didn't want her to feel sad either. His heart clenched as she watched her collapse on her bed.

He wanted to ask her what was wrong, but she might not tell him. Many times, he waited by his window, wanting to open it and wave to her, but his hands dangled down each and every time.

He smiled when he saw her friends enter her room. At least she'll have company now.

But he couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation as he pretended that he was looking through his phone. In actual fact, he was just locking and unlocking his phone screen repeatedly.

He could hear their conversations clearly as he frowned. Her blind date was her ex? Johnny could feel a peculiar emotion rising in him as he tightened his grip on a pencil, nearly breaking it into halves in the process. From her tone of voice, he could tell that she was hurt by him. Badly.

Johnny narrowed his eyes. Kenzie's ex was going to pay for whatever he had done.

Johnny frowned. Why was he so obsessed with Kenzie's date?
