Adriel was a boy in a puppet store. He was hoping to buy a marionette, being fascinated by their many strings and hoping it would make up for the loss of his last puppet, which had been ruined by months of roughhousing. But Adriel searched every shelf and couldn't find a single one he liked. So he went to the counter to ask the owner of the store if there were more in the back. Sitting on the counter, the boy found a small marionette, with a fine blue dress and gold button eyes. She had long blonde hair, and as the boy looked at her, he knew he had to have her. But such a unique, beautiful doll; surely he couldn't afford to buy her! Looking around cautiously, he grabbed the doll and ran.
"I can't believe I just stole you," said Adriel, feeling guilty, having hidden away in his room. The doll just smiled at him, that fake, stitched smile. "...But you aren't mad at me, right?" He asked hopefully. He pulled at the doll's strings, making her stand upright on his lap.
"Of course not, Adriel! I'm glad you saved me!" Adriel made the marionette exclaim. "It was oh so boring to sit in that store all day, I've been waiting for you!"
"I'm sorry I didn't come sooner," said Adriel, "But now we can play together!" He made the doll do a celebratory dance on her string, her stitched on smile still present, her golden eyes still gleaming brightly. From then on, Adriel would play with the marionette every day. She smiled like a doll, though every day her dress wore more from the rough tugs on the strings.
Adriel was a man in a secluded auction. His wife had recently passed away in labor, and he was looking for a woman to suit his tastes. The women up for auction were none of the sort; too tall, too short, too perky, too young, too old. So the man went to ask if these were the only women being offered, and found a beautiful woman sneaking out. There were tears in her eyes, dressed in a beautiful, yet skimpy, blue dress. It was clear she had escaped from being auctioned off to a new owner. She was absolutely perfect; how could he ever pass up an opportunity like this?
Making sure nobody was watching, he picked her up and ran.
