For a minute I just stood there. I couldn't say anything but I felt my mouth fall open involunterily. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and what I saw made me feel sick.

"Hi," Shay spoke softly as she looked up at me with wide eyes. Her face was bright red with tear stains running down and covering her left eye was a bright purple bruise as well as her mouth being cut.

"Shay," I gasped, "What happened to you?" I tried to reach over and touch her arm but she stepped back.

"Why do you care?" Her scared expression suddenly turned mean and nasty.

"Shay I know we aren't exactly on speaking terms but that doesn't mean I don't care about you!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah well I don't need your help," She started to pick up her bag and went to shove past me but I grabbed onto her shoulders firmly.

"No Shay I want to help," I stared determinetly into her eyes, "I know you don't want my help but I need to know what happened, I need to help you. You're my best friend," As I said this her expression softened slightly.

"Tayla I don't know," Shay fidgeted with the hem of her shirt.

"Shay I promise that if you tell me your secret stays with me," I held up my pinky waiting for her to link hers with mine. It has been something we have done since we were little kids.

She stared at my pinky, "You'll tell Matt,"

"No I really won't I promise," And with that she softly linked her pinky in mine, "So now tell me what happened,"

Shay inspected the bathroom to make sure no one was in there, "You know how my parents have always been really intense about school and my grades?"

I nodded my head, "Yeah your parents have always been onto you about getting into the best college."

"Well last night we got our mid semester report and my parents were not happy," She looked at the floor.

"Wait, no. Don't tell me your parents did this?" I covered my mouth with my hand. Her parents were like family to me.

"Not my mum just my dad. I never told you this but he has always been a pretty heavy drinker and last night he just lost it," A tear slid down her cheek.

"Shay you know that none of this was your fault," I rubbed her shoulders soothingly.

"But it is my fault! If I hadn't been hanging around with the wrong crowd and been plotting against you all the time I would have done better in school," She admitted.

"I have to say I felt like I lost you for good," I felt a tear slide down my cheek now.

"Don't worry, Josh broke up with me. He saw my bruise this morning and said that he didn't want to deal with whatever drama was going on in my life right now. I always knew he was a jerk but I thought he might change for me, how stupid," She scoffed.

"You're right he is a jerk," I laughed to try and lighten the mood.

"No I think I'm the bigger jerk right now," She laughed half heartedly.

"Shay, I knew you were angry but why did you do all that stuff? I mean ruining my books is one thing but sneaking into my room and breaking my snowglobe and writing on my mirror is a completely different thing!"

"Wait what? What happened in your room?" She looked confused.

"What do you mean? You broke my snowglobe and wrote on my mirror?" Now I was confused.

"Tay I would never break into your room and I would never break your snowglobe! Your grandad gave you that!" She exclaimed.

"But if it wasn't you then who was it?" My eyes wide with shock.
