-Tayla's POV-
I had been home for over a week now and I had never felt so unsafe in my life. Every night I would be startled awake by the vivid nightmares of that night, my hair stuck to my forehead and sweat drenching through to my sheets. Usually once I was awake I couldn't go back to sleep so I would turn my lamp on and read until it was time to get up for school. Unfortunately people were starting to notice my sleep deprivation and everyday someone would ask me how I was doing and honestly it was starting to get on my nerves.
"Before you ask I'm fine Matt," I huffed as I made my way over to where he was sitting at our usual lunch table with Shay and Madison. I had to use these crutches for a few more weeks and I couldn't wait to get rid of them.
"I wasn't going to ask," He lied.
"Yes you were don't lie, you are a terrible liar," I joked. Lately I hadn't been as nice to Matt and I could see it was hurting him but he knew the reason why. Today I had promised myself I would start to make more of an effort to get my life back to normal.
"Sorry," He half smiled.
"No Matt I'm sorry. I've been treating you like crap lately and it's not fair," I explained carefully.
He looked up at me with his beautiful blue eyes, "You've been through so much I understand that you are going to be a little tense. Are you still having nightmares?" He changed the subject.
"Yes," I mumbled.
"I can't believe it, what bastard would run you over on purpose and not even stop to see if you were alive?" Shay interjected, I had almost forgot that they were there I was so into my conversation with Matt.
I started to pick apart my peanut butter sandwich, "I've been asking myself that question for the past week, ever since I've been getting my memory back," I chewed on a small section of my sandwich thoughtfully, "I really want to find out who this person is. I mean why are they choosing to target me? First they broke into my room and then they ran me over with a car, what are they going to do next?" I looked around at my friends worriedly.
"Don't worry we won't let them hurt you!" Madison replied determinedly.
"Haha thanks guys, but I really need to find out who this is now. I can't sleep, barely eat and my grades are beginning to slip,"
"Well we know it's a girl right?" Matt suggested.
"Yeah from the note, that had to have been a girls writing," I explained as we started to brainstorm.
"Maybe someone is jealous of you and your relationship with Matt," Shay explained, "I know that sounds stupid especially coming from me but hey, love can make you do stupid things,"
"I don't know," Madison interjected, "Would someone really go to all this trouble just to stop you two being together?" I could tell she wasn't buying it but at the moment it was the only reason I could see.
"Well think about it, all of this stuff started to happen as soon as Matt and I started going out," I explained.
"That is true," Matt agreed nodding his head.
"Look let's just talk about this later the bell's about to go and we all need to get to class," I said hurridly. I was over talking about this for now and I needed to focus on school more than anything. I gave Matt a quick kiss and hugged Madison before Shay and I made our way to English.
That night Shay and I sat in my room doing our homework. Her parents hadn't contacted us or Shay since the incident and I think for the time being that would be the best thing for everyone. I was just finishing an algebra equation when Shay looked up from her study.
"Tayla I just thought of something," Her eyes lit up with discovery.
"What? Have you just thought of the answer to question 25 because I am stumped," I huffed as I tapped my pen against the page.
"No about the whole revenge thing," She replied quickly.
"Shay I don't want to talk about it," I went back to the equation and started to fill out what I thought could be the answer.
She crossed her arms and glared at me, "Tayla this is more important than any stupid maths homework, this is your life and quite frankly it is being run by some psycho who is trying to ruin it,"
"Alright I'm listening," I put down my pen and waited for what she had to say.
"Okay now this might sound a bit crazy but it's just a theory," She explained, "Now, the very first bit of revenge that was played on you was done by me when I ruined your textbooks,"
"Yeah you still owe me money for that by the way," I laughed lightly crossing my arms.
"I know I know," She smiled, "And I am sorry about that. Anyway, the next revenge was the writing on your mirror and the breaking of your snowglobe. This happened 2 months after what I did and we know it wasn't me who broke into your room,"
"Yeah so?" I didn't understand where any of this was leading.
"Now don't get angry at me Tayla but like I said this is just a theory. Who did you meet the day your room got broken into?" She hinted.
"Madison," I said remembering the day we met in English class when Shay was still hating me.
"Right. Who was with us the day you got that note in your bag at the shops? Madison! Now the last revenge was the car. I watched you go out the front with Matt and at the time Madison had gone off with some guy from the soccer team. I went to find her and I looked all over the house and she was no where to be seen. That was when I heard Matt yelling and everyone ran outside including me. I saw you lying there and I started to look for where Madison was but I still couldn't see her. I began to cry and within a minute she was there behind me comforting me, but she was so calm Tayla it was weird," Shay rambled as if she had just cracked a murder mystery.
"So what are you saying that Madison is the one who is trying to get revenge on me?" I didn't want to believe this but it was all making sense.
"I can't say for sure but right now the evidence is stacking up against her," Shay said sadly.
I looked around the room in disbelief, "We can't say anything to her incase it isn't her, she is our friend and she would be so hurt if we even thought it could be her,"
"I agree, so I was thinking maybe we could invite her over to "do some homework", I'll get her to help me with mine and write something on a page and we will compare her writing to the notes you have recieved," Shay plotted carefully. She really would make a good detective.
"Okay sounds like a plan," I whipped out my phone and texted Madison to come over and study with us. It can't be her, she's our friend. It can't be Madison. I kept thinking to myself over and over, but this small doubt in my mind thought that maybe it could be.
20 minutes later we sat in a circle on my bedroom floor studying.
"Hey Maddy can you read this paragraph and maybe write some notes on the side on the things I can work on?" Shay asked casually.
"Yeah sure," She took Shay's notebook and began making notes.
"Thanks," Shay took the book back and looked at the notes Madison had made. I watched her expression carefully and within 10 seconds she looked up at me and blinked fast 3 times. This was our signal to say that the writing was exactly the same. I couldn't believe this. Madison had been the one trying to hurt me, but why? She had just moved here she didn't even know Matt or I? So how could she be jealous of us when she didn't even know us?
