The days after the locker incident I was a nervous wreck. Everywhere I went I was looking behind me or making sure my windows were locked at night. I was becoming so paranoid I couldn't even eat breakfast in the morning I was sick with worry as to what the day would bring.
"Tay, sweetie what's wrong?" My mother asked one morning. I had been dreading one of my parents asking me that because I knew there was a 90% chance I would break down and tell them everything and I really didn't want to.
"Nothing mum, I'm just tired," I wiped my eyes for effect.
"Sometimes I think the amount of school work they give you kids is ridiculous, it puts so much pressure on all of you," She stroked my hair lovingly.
"I agree mum but I'm in my last year now so I don't have to put up with it much longer," I gave a half hearted laugh.
"Well if you ever need any help with anything we don't mind getting you a tutor seeing as you know how bad your father and I are when it comes to academics," She laughed. My parents had never been good in school and were never much help when it came to homework.
"Thanks mum, but I think I'll be okay," I patted her hand and she kissed my forehead. These moments made me realize how lucky I was to have parents like them.
I arrived at school early as I had learnt it was best to get to class earlier and get a seat at the back where no one would bother me. My current clothing was jeans and a hoodie everyday. I walked briskly to my english class and sat at the back corner which was my new favourite seat. I started to busy myself with getting out my books for the class when I noticed Shay and Josh walking in. I kept my head down but from the corner of my eye I saw Shay look over at me and for a second I thought I saw a glimmer of sympathy flash across her pretty features. But when I went to look up to make sure it was replaced by a mean snear.
"What ya staring at?" She yelled from across the other side of the room.
"Nothing," I mumbled back and glued my eyes to the textbook infront of me, pretending to find the chapter we would be reading today.
I expected Shay to make some smart remark but instead she lead Josh over to a seat where she sat on the desk and wrapped her legs around his waist and once again everyone got a full view of them making out. I looked past their entangled bodies to see a girl walk in that I had never seen around before. She looked nice, average like me. She took a long look around the room as if planning where to sit was crucial as to what people thought of her. Her eyes landed on the spare desk next to me and I saw her give me a quick smile as she made her way over to me.
"Hi, is this seat taken?" She motioned to the one next to me. I looked up and saw how similar we did look. We both had short hair except hers was a fiery red. She had bright green eyes and soft small features.
"No no it's not," I smiled back at her. Maybe this girl could be a new friend, "Are you new?" I asked as she sat down and started to take out her brand new books.
"Yeah I used to live in the country before my parents decided that it was best for me to go to a bigger school and make some real friends," She said solemnly. She must miss the country.
"I've always loved the country it's so nice and pretty and I love all the space. Did you have a farm?" I hoped my small talk wasn't boring her but she seemed quite content with the conversation.
"Yeah we did. We had sheep, horses, chickens, cows. The lot basically. I loved it and I would go riding everyday," She said enthusiastically.
"Wow that is so cool! I always dreamed of owning my own horse but we definitely don't have the space," I laughed as I thought about having a horse in my tiny backyard.
