-Matts POV-
"TAYLA WATCH OUT!" I yelled as loud as I could and tried to reach her to push her out of the path of whoever this lunatic was in this car coming straight towards my girlfriend. I was too late, I watched Tayla fly over the bonnet and hit the road. Without a break in my step I ran as fast as I could to her side and rolled her over, "SOMEONE CALL 000!" I screamed back at the house. By this time people were streaming out onto the road including Shay but I didn't see Madison, she was probably in the toilet or getting a drink and hadn't heard all the yelling.
"Oh My God!" They both screamed and ran to where I was leaning over Tayla.
"She's not breathing!" I yelled desperately. I made sure she was on her back before I started pumping my hands on her chest and breathing into her mouth, perform mouth to mouth ressusitation. Thank god we had learnt this in school, "Come on Tayla breath!" I screamed as I pumped on her chest. As I was still performing mouth to mouth the ambulance arrived and before I knew it a defibulator was being brought out and I saw the jerking of Tayla's body as the electric shocks pulsed into her heart. I ran over to Shay and Madison as they hugged eachother. Madison must have come out when I wasn't looking but I was glad she was here to comfort Shay. who had makeup running down her face along with her tears although Madison appeared to be calm, holding it together. I hugged them both and they turned to hug me. I let a silent tear slide down my face as I watched them put Tayla onto a stretcher and into the van. I quickly ran up to one of the paramedics, "I'm her boyfriend let me in!"
"Of course kid, come on hop in," He motioned me into the van and I sat next to Tayla. I stroked her hair with one hand and held her hand with my other.
"I'm so sorry I'm so sorry I'm so sorry," I chanted over and over again.
"Kid what are you sorry for?" The paramedic asked me kindly.
"It should have been me, I should have been able to push her out of the way. But I didn't make it," I sobbed.
"It's not your fault, it's that idiot driving the car!" He exclaimed, "There is no need for you to blame yourself for this okay," He said firmly.
All I could do was nod lightly as I continued to hope that Tayla would be okay.
Once we were at the hospital they whisked her into an operating room and I was told that I had stay in the waiting room but they wouldn't tell me what was going on. I knew that fighting with the doctors for information wouldn't help and they needed to operate straight away so I went and rung Shay.
"Is she okay?" Shay practically screamed into the phone.
"I-I don't know," I stammered, "They wouldn't tell me but she is in the operating room now,"
"Madison and I are coming right now!" Shay yelled back.
"No guys don't, she won't be out for hours and even then the doctors probably won't let us see her. It's 1am so I'm just going to stay here until she comes out and I'll text you as soon as I know anything," I reassured them, the last thing I needed was to talk to more people and I didn't feel like talking to Shay.
"Okay I guess your right," Shay hesitated.
"Everything will be fine," I said, reassuring myself more than her.
"Yeah she is a strong girl, she will get through this," I heard Shay sob into the phone.
"Her parents will be here soon so I am assuming they would have left the key under the mat," I told Shay, they always left the key under the mat which probably wasn't the most secure option.
"Okay thanks, Madison and I are just going to go home and "try" to sleep,"
"Try and at least get a few hours, I'll message you later,"
"Bye Matt," Shay said quietly as I hung up. At that very second I saw Tayla's parents rush into the waiting room.
"Matt oh my god Matt what happened?" Tayla's mum pleaded with me as she embraced me roughly.
"S-she was hit by a car, I tried to get her out of the way but I didn't get to her in time," I felt a sob coming on but I managed to stop it escaping.
"Matt please don't blame yourself, you did all you could," She sobbed into my chest. As her mum cried against me I saw her father walk towards us after talking to the doctor.
"No new yet guys but they said she will be out of surgery within 3 hours," Her dad looked so worn down and tired he looked 10 years older, "Matt, I heard you tried to ressusitate her," He looked neutrally at me.
"Y-yes sir,"
"Well, the doctor just told me that if you hadn't done that she would have died at the scene. We can't thanky ou enough son," He pulled me in for a quick embrace and I saw tears forming in my eyes. All I could do was nod and reply with a quick no worries before I went off to get us all coffees.
3 hours later and I had been fidgeting in my seat so much my butt was actually numb and my legs ached from bopping them up and down. Finally the same doctor emerged from down the hallway and made his way over to us.
"Your daughter has had severe internal injuries and has a broken leg but other than that, she is going to be okay," The doctor smiled and we all cheered and hugged.
"When can we see her?" I asked eagerly.
"You can come in now she is just waking up from the anesthetic," He said as he ushered us down the hallway. A minute later we were infront of the room and he was leading us in. There in the bed was my beautiful Tayla. She looked so tiny in the bed, so innocent. When I find the person who did this to her I would make their life a living hell. Her parents walked quickly over to her and sat on either side, holding her hands. I stood awkwardly at the end of the bed and watched her as she slept peacefully.
"M-M-matt," Tayla muttered as she moved her head to the side, coming out of the anaesthetic. She had asked for me, out of everyone she had asked for me.
"He's right here hunny," Her mum said softly as she motioned for me to take her place and sit next to her. I sat down and began stroking her cheek softly. Instinctively she leant her head into my hand and her eyes began to flutter open. There were those beautiful green eyes.
"Hey Tay," I whispered as I leant over and kissed her foreahead.
"M-Matt," Her eyes were fully open now and she was looking at me with confusion, "What happened? Where am I?"
"You had an accident Tayla, you were hit by a car," Her dad explained quietly.
"What I don't remember," She looked around the room panicking.
"It's okay the doctors said you might not remember the incident," I reassured her.
"I guess that's a good thing," She mumbled only loud enough so I could hear.
"Hey, everythings going to be okay, I promise," I held out my pinky and she linked hers with mine and we stayed like that for hours.
Over the next few days my parents told me I could stay at the hospital with Tayla and miss school as long as I promised to go to extra after school classes when I got back. So for days I stayed in the hospital with Tayla. Most of the time we watched TV and played video games on my old nintendo that I brought in. When we had done both of those we played snap and go fish. When Tayla got sleepy from all the medication I would lie next to her on the bed and she would sleep against my shoudler as I stroked her hair. Shay and Madison visited everyday after school and stayed until late and we all talked and laughed about the horrible hospital food that Tayla had to eat.
A few weeks later and Tayla was allowed to come home from the hopsital although she still had to use crutches. As I watched her limping up the stairs to her room I promised I would find the person who did this to her and I would make them pay.
