Meredith's POV
Grayson and I walk into the hospital. it's been about an hour since the ambulance came and got MaKena from the house. I took my time to shower, pull myself together, and pack some clothes and essentials because there's no telling how long we'll be here.
"We're here to see MaKena Bradshaw, she just got brought here by an ambulance about an hour ago." Grayson tells the lady at the computer.
"Are you family?" She asks, still staring at the big computer screen.
"Actually-"
"I'm her sister." I cut in. I only said that so she'd let me in.
She eyeballs me but says, "She's in room 438 on the second floor."
We thank her and head that way. Finally finding the elevator, we get in and Grayson pushes the button saying 2.
"Listen, Mere," Gray starts. I look at him but he's looking straight ahead, not even glancing at me.
"Whatever happens, it's going to be okay. Everything is going to happen like it's supposed to. I just want you to know that I'm here for you." I tear up at his words.
"I know.." I whisper, looking down at my shoes.
He walks over to me, wraps his arms around me and squeezes me. I wanted to stay in that moment forever, but of course, the elevator doors open and people are waiting to walk in. We awkwardly let go of each other and apologize, making our way out of the small space.
"What room did she say?" I ask him, just to double check.
"438." He says and turns to the right.
I follow him down the long, sad hallway, quietly passing rooms that have sick people in them. Some of them could be dying, some could just have a bad flu.
Gray makes a sharp right turn and knocks on a door that has 438 written on it. Nobody answers, so he pushes the door open and takes a step in.
I hold my breath and follow him inside.
As we make our way over to the bed, I can here her slightly snoring. I chuckle inside my head, remember how she'd breathe super heavy but only in a deep sleep.
"Do you want to just wait here until she wakes up?" Gray asks me, rubbing my arm.
"Yeah, no, that's fine." I choke out.
I look around and realize that there's only one chair in the room.
Are you kidding me?! What am I supposed to do now?? Sit in his lap??
"Well.." Grayson says, noticing my alarmed reaction to only having one seat available.
"I'll sit in the floor." I awkwardly say.
"No, Mere. You're not sitting in the floor. You can just curl up in my lap." He sends a smile my way.
"G-gray." I stutter.
"I'm serious, come here." He sits down in the chair and pats his lap. I giggle at his dorkiness and walk over to him.
I sit in his lap and put my head on his chest. All of a sudden, I hear a loud sound. Realizing it was just Grayson making the recliner come out in the chair, I slightly smack his stomach because he scared me so bad.
"You're fine. I got you." He says, but then laughs.
I sit up and say, "What?" with a pouty face.
"You jumped." He chuckles even harder.
"Oh shut up! It startled me, how can you blame me?" I say in defense.
I lie my head back down on his chest and listen to his heartbeat. So pure and calm, even after laughing at my stupidness.
As if on cue, my head shoots over at the sound a voice I know all too well.
"Get a room." MaKena said, laughing and then coughing.
