Jeff and I laid in bed with Sienna, watching HGTV. For a Monday night, this was the most relaxed I've ever been in awhile.

"I'm going to shower, and then make some pancakes for dinner." I told Jeff, resting my head on his shoulder.

"Sounds amazing." I chuckled at his reply, rolling off the bed. I grabbed one of his t-shirts and anything else I needed before closing the bathroom door. I hook up my phone to the speaker, opening the door just enough to toss my phone onto the floor.

I turned on the water, getting into the shower, occasionally singing a song or two. I was mid song when I was interrupted by a phone call. I stopped the shower, wrapped my towel around me, and grabbed the phone from outside the door.

"Hello?"

"Emily?"

"Mom? What do you want?"

"You have a kid now?"

"Why are you calling?"

"I wanted to check in on you."

"You never bothered to 'check in' when Justin and I were in middle and high school. You never bothered to get us clothes, or food, or anything we would need for the school year. So please enlighten me, what do you want?"

"I want to meet my grandchild."

"And why would I let you? So you can abandon her too?"

"It's a girl?"

"Yes. But she will never meet you."

"She's the only one who doesn't know all the bad things I've done."

"No. She shouldn't meet her grandma who has been on drugs FOR YEARS. All that she needs to know is that her grandma was never a kind woman. That's what she'll learn." I hung up the phone, wiping away the stray tear on my face. I didn't even realize I was crying until I felt the burn in my throat. A knock on the door interrupted my train of thought.

"Em, you okay?" I huffed, taking my hair out of the towel. I opened the door. Jeff stood there, a sad expression on his face.

"My mom wants to meet Sienna. I don't want her to."

"Then you don't let her. That's all your decision, Em. If you don't want her to meet Sienna, then you don't have to let her."

"But Jeff, you're her dad. What do you want? Should we let my mother meet her?"

"Baby, I'll support you with whatever you want. If you allow your mother to see  her, then watch her with Sienna if you feel uncomfortable. Or only allow her to stay for 5 or 10 minutes."

"I just feel like I'm alone. Justin is in high school, you're in school, and a majority of the time it's just Sienna and I..."

"You aren't alone. You've never been alone." Jeff reassures me, pressing a kiss to my temple. I wrapped my arms around his torso, taking in his scent. I pulled away, smiling slightly at the brown haired boy.

"I'll be right out." Jeff nodded, grabbing Sienna on his way out of the bedroom. I turned around and sighed.

Did I really want my daughter meeting my mother: the woman who completely ignored my brother and I? I was torn. Maybe she would change if she met Sienna. But did I really want to expose my daughter to someone who has no intention of staying in her life?

I opened my phone and opened my messages with Justin. If anyone could help make this decision easier, it was him.

And I needed my brother right now.
